Original factory pink? It looks as if someone painted them.

ad:" We're selling a working vintage washer & matching 220 volt dryer. It has 3 different wash level push buttons, & 4 temperature control settings.

The matching 220 volt dryer features 10 different heat drying cycles.

This vintage set features the "knob in the middle"

I agree: This set is a re-paint...

The obvious hint: Look at the size of that dryer door--that means the lint filter is tucked inside...

Not so obvious: the control panel; I think there is a difference in the trim between this "newer generation" model and the 'back-in-the-day era' model that the seller wants you to believe that this is from...

And finally: Compare the hue of this pink with the original & you're comparing it to Pepto Bismo...  (Well, maybe that IS the same pink there--but I digress...)

Wouldn't original pink Maytags have been glass panel, back lit models as well ? Or is it just that the only pink ones I've ever seen were glass panels?

Weren't these featured on "Pimp My Laundry"?

That pink is definitely in-your-face and I think the gold panel on the consoles are a horrible accent.  If they must paint them pink, they could have at least picked a suitable compliment and repainted the sunglow panels.

Original color?

With soda blasting, it would peel away one layer at a time. Maybe it was just a rusty white, but it would be interesting if it was pink, and they just decided to do their own makeup.

They were definitely never pink.
Pink was available early 60s. This set is from the late 70s.

I'm guessing the paint would easily peel off the porcelain top.

I once found a harvest gold refrigerator that someone cheaply decided they wanted to change the color on. So they got out a can of flat latex paint, and a paint pad, and painted it off-white color.
It was complete with no primer base, varying thicknesses of paint, and strokes in the finish.
