Hey guys. I am still looking for the carpet/floor tool for this vacuum. I have exhausted all of my resources. Doug is looking for one for me, but he hasn't had any luck yet. Does anyone have any more suggestions where I may find one? Thanks, Tim
I thought the color was "off" ...I belive mom's was a salmon /pinkish color.
I recall the paper bag sitting in a cloth one, and that the opeing was HUGE. No problem retrieving "lost" items that the machined sucked in accidentally.
Why oh why do I think I recall a GE that floated on the exhaust air? (like a puck in air hockey, sorta).
My brothers (who hated vacuuming to start with), would never empty/clean the bag, so lucky me would start my chores wondering why the darn thing wasn't picking up anything. Quick check under the bonnet told the tale!
Steve, GE didn't as far as I can recall, but Hoover produced two machines that floated on the exhaust air: First the Constellation, then the Celebrity. Thanks to the generosity of member/collector Fred S., aka Hooverwheelaway, I now possess a wonderful early-1970's Constellation 843, or the "Tilted" model (second production run). It is a very powerful machine with strong suction and great airflow, and is a bit easier to "control" the floating than the Celebrity. Here's a picture:
And here's Hoover's second hovering cleaner, the Celebrity. I have the S3005 or Celebrity III, the BOL straight-suction machine from the 1970's. It is an awesome machine and some (including me) say it's the most powerful Hoover canister, but unlike the Connie which is whisper-quiet, it sounds similar to a Eureka Mighty Mite canister except on a much louder scale. Not afraid to hover either; and like the flying saucers, it tends to take off very rapidly!
You are right, Toggle. The paper bag does sit on top of a cloth one. It is not that difficult to clean. Simply pull out the paper bag and replace it. It would probably be a pain to clean if you only used the cloth bag. Do you remember what kind of job the vacuum did cleaning floors. I don't know since I don't have the floor tool, but it has great suction and airflow with the other attachments. The vacuum is actually quiet and it has that slow "winding down" sound when you turn it off. If anyone comes across one of these tools, please e-mail me. Thanks again, Tim
you are also missing the "curved piece" from the last straight wand, to the floor brush, I don't have the carpet tool but i do have the bristled floor brush. Mine is harvest gold and the attachments are white. The machine still has the paper sticker "the most loved machine" e-mail me if you want, I will send you the whole thing. I am trying to thin things out around here. our house stayed high and dry... just don't call her Katrina. arthur.
I saw your GE...nice machine. As for the carpet/floor tool, your best bet is to wait for a while and a "parts machine" will pop up on eBay with the tools you're looking for, or even the tool itself! Or perhaps another collector might have a spare...I don't have any GE machines or accessories yet or else I'd send you one!!
The brown tank vacuum is a 1989 Metropolitan "Turbootronic" with a Douglas P/N that I use to clean the shed, new vacuums, machines, etc. It's quite a rugged machine (even though I don't "abuse" it) and gets a LOT of use from myself. It doesn't really have the strongest suction, but perfect for what it does.
Austin,
I have had this thing for over a year. I have looked on ebay, but haven't found anything yet. I am pretty particular about how it looks, so I really want the blue attachment. Do you know of any other collectors? One really wouldn't think something so small would be that difficult to find, but trust me it is.Tim
Check thrift stores for spare vacuum attachments. I keep a spare upholstery tool for vacuuming the bathroom floors and thrift stores are where I have found mine. The smaller size of upholstery tools makes them fit just about everywhere.
We had the Hoover Constellation briefly too.
But it was someone else's cast-off and used as a utlity vac.
