Quiet Please, There´s a Lady on Stage
Well, Rosario has been detained by Homeland Security and is in the process of being deported. Don't know how it happened, there we were driving back across the border when customs must have thought Rosie looked a bit nervous. Next thing I know she's being whisked off for a body cavity search, and I've never seen her since. Pity of the matter is Rosie was holding my stash, er medicine on her person. Come to think of it there was something about declaring illegal drugs.....

Any way have found a new girl and she starts tomorrow. Her name is Berta. She's a big strong healthy country girl with a mouth on her and tends to be kind of bossy, but she scares the kids and hubby lost a pair soon as she moved in, so methinks she's a keeper.

I have loves sassy Concheta Ferrell every since I saw her on a short lived program during the late 70's called Hot-L Baltimore.

She always plays a character actress, never seen her in a major role, but her personality is great.

She was going to be

Maude Findlay's new maid after Esther Rolle left for "Good Times," but somehow, Hermione Baddely wound up as Mrs Naugatuck.

Her sister, Angela Baddely was Mrs Bridges on "Upstairs Downstairs."

Lawrence/Maytagbear

Remeber too her movie roles in:
Mystic Pizza
Erin Brockovitch

If I remember correctly she was on the last year of "Boy Meets World" or one of those Friday line up shows. The show itself was forgetable, but she is always, as Laundress said, "A HOOT".

One of My Favourite Lines

Charlie: Berta, are you leaving? (as Berta is walking towards front door)

Berta: Yes, I have to go to the opera, they can't end until I get there and sing.

One of the best episodes is when one of Charlie's ex-"skanks" (as Berta calls them), has a sex change operation and is now a man. Worse Charlie's mother starts seeing Charlie's new "friend' and is now romantically involved. As the mother is relating her new found love at the kitchen table to Charlie and his brother, Berta is in the corner by the sink giggling like a school girl! Every time the mother goes on about her new boy toy, Berta cracks up! Finally the mother turns to Berta and asks "is there a problem"? Berta says: "I'm just happy to be here!". When Charlie finally decides someone must tell his mother the truth, Berta begs on bended knee "oh Please let me be the one, "I'll clean your house for free for a month".

Rosie was funny, but Berta is in an whole other class. Sort of like Dolores Clayborne, but from down on the farm. The kind of gal that could chop a cord of woood, kill several chickens, pluck and dress them, and get the laundry out on the lines all before breakfast. She is also the kind of woman you'd want say when crossing the country on a wagon train, or out in the back country during a "Deliverance" type of momnent.

I too have been a fan Concheta Ferrell since Hot L Baltimore. I've enjoyed just about everything she's ever done. I'm glad that she's finally getting the recognition that she deserves. If you want to see a different side of her, rent what a movie called "Heartland". The New York Times accurately calls it "a small memorable movie". She's wonderful in it.

Mike
