Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Thank again Robert for the effort to keep the site up and going!

It seems that the hackers do as you say and cast a wide net. They often use defective homebrew software to try and install hidden backdoors. It makes sense that a failure of this software could result in lots of file loss.

They probably wanted to store illegal files in hidden directories and then send private links to them.

Well, I thought it was a bit unusual for Norma lol site maintenance for Autimatic Washer to be down for as long as it had, so the idea of something of that sort of nature, was beyond any sort of my simple comprehension, enough that in what ever event it could just be simply back up and running and I'll echo my thoughts in wondering what sort of conspiracy could be involved in wanting a website just devoted to appliances, and I'll save what ever thoughts for what's more deeper in whatever "other" matter forvwhenever I can upgrade to be up on whatever might be brewing over in Dirty Laundry, then...

Thank you, Robert for just doing what normal maintenance was what was simply required to just preserve the continuity of this great forum for us appliance enthusiasts and lovers of all things home, I want to just focus on that simple aspect, realizing there is a lot involved running a data base, when there are technical, issues alone, that even in simplest form, are not always simply solved, so thank you again, you get just done the "normal" dirty work involved...

Robert,

I join in the chorus of praise for all you do and your extra miles. I noticed the site was down the other day and was pleased when you got it restored.

In a probably unrelated note, yesterday I found I could no longer access my account information on Fidelity. It went on for at least four hours, I tried calling them at the number the error screen showed, and got nowhere. Finally last night I called Fidelity direct, then they advised me to try a different browser. Normally I use Firefox for everything; they suggested Chrome. Sure enough Chrome did the trick. Today I still cannot use Firefox to get through to my Fidelity account. I do not know why. It sort of sucks to have to use two different browsers, but as long as I can get the info, that's OK. Oh, and they also suggested trying a mobile phone to access. I did that as well, and got through just fine.

Go figure.

My agency's IT people have put a new security tool on our email called Phish Alert that will flag possible security threats. I am lately getting a lot more spam phone calls at home that, when they go to the answering machine, leave long periods of noise. This is something new.

I had a sudden problem several weeks ago with Firefox not accessing a few log-in type sites ... bank and ABC streaming among them.  I completely cleared browser history and cookies, and tried a different user profile, it still didn't work ... then the problem corrected after a few more days.  May have been related to a version update, there were a few updates in quick succession at that time.

There's a site I access for tech documents.  Firefox aborts on downloads there (didn't always happen).  I figured out that Chrome works OK.  I don't like Chrome so use it only when I need to fetch a file at that site.

Thank You

Thanks for the site recovery.
I also noticed that Houzz.com ( Laundryroom ) is still down.
Wonder if they suffered the same attack.

Glenn (Dadoes),

I've been getting by OK with using Chrome to access Fidelity. But it was sort of a PITA.

So tonight I did a little Firefox research (Firefox Help) and found the process for deleting just the cookies for one site. I ran that and lo and behold after that Firefox was able to access my Fidelity accounts again. I know it wasn't a change on the Fidelity end that enabled it, because it was still locked tight before I deleted the cookies etc on my end.

Disaster Averted!

I can remember way back in the 1980s, when a 50 MB disk crashed at work. Fortunately we kept daily backups, but still your stomach dropped with that sinking feeling of losing a day’s work.

But 20 years and 1 million entries! How times have changed! Phenomenal work!

Robert, no apology necessary. We OCD appliance and past appliance lovers found this site to be just what we needed. Thank you for all your diligence and hard work over the past years. Besides, Robert, did you ever stop to think that the Russians probably hacked into this site to copy all of the vintage appliance designs and patents from after WWII through the '50's, so they could update their country's current laundry products?

Yes, thank you!

Thank you Robert.  You are a good, if not great Webmaster.  I also thank you.

Cyber War is real, darn it!

I am back.  When I called my Public Library for other information, I asked how to enlarge the font in Chrome...easier than storbought pie!  Siart with those three vertical dots, thrn go to "Settings,: then "Appearence," and then "fonts."  A little more than "Control+," but not much more/  Really could not read this wwith my phone.  Don't know how any of you do!

Thanks, Robert!

I rarely post a repeat of something someone has already answered in a comment, but this time, I have to.

Robert,
No apology needed.
Thank you for creating and maintaining this wonderful community and resource.
You got it back up and running in record time.

I would also like to make a contribution to help offset the costs of getting us back up and going.

You are amazing.
Sarah
