Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I'm going to politely ask you to please cool it with the perverted innuendos. That is not even close to why we like washers; I think we're all interested in washers because they are something mechanical that we can "tinker" with. Men like mechanical stuff, in many forms & fashions.

Anyone agree with me?

Yes:-Its not just washers--Also vacuums, motion picture projectors, transmitters, sewing machines-I could keep going.I like various kinds of electronic and mechanical-electromechanical gizmos.however a mechanical gizmo I DON'T like to work on--CARS.Pay someone to do that.Yet I get just as dirty fixing the tuning mechanisms in our transmitters-You look like you were in a motorcyclist chain fight when you are done. The tune mechanisms use motorcycle chains to move the coil taps.

Pardon me for offending anyone. I was just trying to bring a little light-heartedness to the conversation. I'll keep quite now.

Easy does it...

Welcome to the club David! I am sure some here were not upset by your comment, although it was not in the best taste. This is not a "gay" club, although many members do happen to be gay.I am sure no one in this club wants you to "be quiet" if you have something suitable to share with everybody.I am sure other members realize you were just making a joke to "break the ice". I will look forward to reading your posts in the future. (:

Let's not be too hard on David. He's probably just in that euphoric state one experiences when one finds a group of kindred spirits!

But back to things mechanical. Yep, pretty much anything mechanical appeals to me. I notice, though, that nobody has mentioned typewriters. For sheer number of moving parts, you just can't beat 'em.

My, my. This thread HAS taken some unusual turns, hasn't it?

But that's because we're such innnnnnteresting people.

Hi David, welcome to the club. Yes I agree with Rick your comment was unnecessary and in very bad taste, but we will all get over it.

Yes this thread has taken some interesting turns, and its the first thread to go over 100 posts. I wanted to see what would happen and the system seems to have survived, yay!

Mechanical things

I was interested in ANYTHING that was mechanical/electrical from an early age. I was imitating the sounds of each type of automatic transmissions in our family cars when playing with my toy cars. Fascinated with electric trolley cars and electric trolley buses in public transit. Prefer making my coffee in a percolator so I can hear the noise and watch the coffee spurt in the glass lid. Watching steam railroad locomotives, and giant motor-generator sets in electrical subastations that powered electric transit. Watching the different ways automatic record changers and juke boxes work. Watching the scene in "Titanic" where they are desperately trying to reverse the reciprocating steam engines was fascinating. And on and on and on.

I tried to stay away from posting on this!

But oh well what the hell!
When I first found this site I didn't realize that probably 90% of the members were gay.But you know I really don't give a damn! To me gay isn't a issue! That's a choice! If a person has a good heart and soul that is what really matters. For so long now the people in this world think that if your different from themselves, then your wrong or weird! Including religion, color of skin, and sexual choice. What it all boils down to is being a good person! It's not that hard to be a good person! Don't kill anyone, Don't hurt anyone ( physically or mentally) Don't lie or steal! The simple things! And don't deny anyone happiness! So for all my friends that I've met on this site. I'm glad I found it because I think your a great group of people!
P.S. I would love to host a convention, but you guy's would fall in love with my hubby ( he's very handsome ) LOL

Ha!. WE'LL be the judge of that! Post a pic! ;)

And straight guys too...

As alot of you know, I am straight but I do love mechanical stuff. Cars, record players, jukeboxes, roller coasters, and of course, automatic washers. If it has a motor and gears on it, I'm there.

I went to the 2002 convention and had blast. Knowing that I was probably the only straight guy there, I didn't feel threatened or anything. I had a complete blast and I can't wait for the next one.

My little honey, Brianne, is totally in love with me and is supportive of my washer/jukebox/record player/coaster habit. In fact she wants a jukebox which is no problem for me.

I think regardless of political or sexual orientation we can come together as a group, get along, and talk about our favorite things.

God bless Automaticwasher.org! Bethann, you rock with your vintage stuff! Go girl! Nice to see a woman who's into the vintage. Girls like you and Brianne or priceless!

Conservative?

BTW, count me in the very small rank of conservatives that hang out on this board. Not a hater, just conservative and Christian. But hey, I don't force my views on anyone cause I'm cool like that.

Have fun!

Nice group of guys here no matter what

Thats cool Jason, I had a feeling you were conservative; I'm also a "young straight conservative" on the board. It doesn't matter though who anybody is; this is really an excellent group of people on here and I hope it stays that way!!! That's what matters, IMHO, not whether anyone is gay or straight, conservative or liberal, black or white, etc...

From the video, it looks like everybody had a great time at the 2002 Convention! I had an interest in washers starting at age 4, when I helped my mom do the laundry, but vacuum cleaners were my #1 interest. I had a 1970 Hoover Convertible 1020, two Dial-A-Matics ('74 and '78 I think), as well as two 1980's Shop-Vac 5-gallons when I discovered "Classic Appliances" in late 2003. Watching Robert's videos of the GE in action ("Detergent Pan" marks the first video I've seen here), I thought vintage automatic washers were the neatest appliances I had seen, and watching the 2002 Convention video pushed me to start collecting and join Applianceville! As of now, I have a good collection of both vacuums and washer stuff considering I'm only 16, and I look into the future and wonder what will happen to all this stuff in 20 years when I'm 36!! Hopefully I will hang on to the 1998 Kenmore that we bought when I was 10, and while a DD machine is nothing special now, just think, it will become collectible in 20 years or even sooner!!

And Beth, you're setting a great example for many women who like vintage appliances to start collecting! I sincerely hope many people will follow in your footsteps! Keep it up and I hope you find the pink '56 Unimatic soon!!!

I stumbled upon this group a few years ago and make it a point to log in and read the messages and see the picture of the day a few time daily. I am 46 now and married. I was lucky to meet a girl that cooking, kitchens, appliances were not that important. For me there a passion. From the time I could walk, I was an appliance lover. As an army brat we moved alot, I remember the washer and dryer we had in our house in Kentucky when I was just 2. They were a GE filter-flo with the orange colored filter and strait vane activator. Our neighbor had a Westinghouse Dishwasher I remember standing next to it and feeling the wamrth of it running. They would pick me up to see inside. I would love to meet all the guys form this group at a convention. Maybe one of the years one would be held close to where I live, halfway between Philadelphia and New York. My appliance loves are dishwashers and vacuums. BUt love looking at them all. I would love to go to the Henry FOrd museum to see thier display of appleances. I have already asked my elderly neighbor if I could have or buy her KitchAId diswasher sink with the cast iron wash arm. She said it needs a new motor. I want to rebuild it and put it in my Laundry room. I was always picked on growing up because of my love of appliances and cooking, I am not a big sports fan. I like to watch them very little. I would like to watch our frontloading washer more or the transparent demo appliances at the local department store. I have a good friend whose brother and his boyfriend tell me I like watching "Gay Football" as they call it because I watch The Food and Home and Garden channels all the time. To me people are people, we are not here to judge or be judged, unlees you break the law. You have to respect all. If there are any of you guys in the Lehigh valley area email me. I would love to meet you. my email is in my profile.

Hey Veg and jasonl

Veg I can't post a pic of my hubby. He already thinks I'm a little crazy with my appliance thing! But, he is supportive enough to come home after working all day doing construction to do more construction to make my dream come true in the downstairs kitchen. If this was a site about music gear it would probably be different since thats his passion. Basically, what I'm saying is if I would post a picture of him to let a guy see what he looks like he would probably kick my butt. He would think I've really lost it! But I do think we need to start a thread and have everyone post pictures of themselves so we can all put names with faces. I think that would be cool!

What part of the Big Easy do you live in? In the 80's I lived in the Quarter for a while, N.O. East. and a couple other places in N.O. That sure was the good old days!

Conservative

Count me in as well-I mostly keep quiet on the politcial issues unless brought up.I too would say this is a very interesting group of folks and a good website.I do enjoy looking it up everyday and see whats new and going on-Learned more on appliances from this chat room then most of the books and manuals I have.I like that we have a common interest-that is the appliances we use dialy in our lives. Many people I know don't pay much attention or interest in their appliances until they break! These freinds would then ask me to "Look at my machine and see whats wrong?"I am glad that I typed "Vintage Vacuum cleaners" and this website showed up.It is nice there are other folks out there-"washer watchers"-appliance fans!!

Hey, bethann!
A construction worker? My, my. But I can understand hubby's feelings totally!

Does he know about audiokarma.org? I belong over there too and it's another great buncha guys. I've only seen one girl there--and she's totally hot.

Well, if you can't post hubby, at least make sure you keep posting those appliance pix!

50 kitchen, 70s basement yeah baby!

Bethann, Bri and I are gonna do our kitchen like a 1950s diner. Our argument is as follows: Brianne wants all new appliances that have a "retro" look. I want the REAL stuff (50s fridge, stove, washer/dryer). She wanted a CD jukebox but I steered her towards a vintage Seeburg that plays records.

The good side is the REAL diners were chrome and stainless steel. So stainless appliances will kinda fit.

But I won't argue much because she already granted me the basement and the garage >:-) .

Well, this is all in the future but it's something to look forward to.
