Plumbing has always been my worst enemy...

So I turned on the single handle kitchen faucet today and the flow is almost at a trickle on both hot and cold. I checked the other faucets in the house, the flow is fine. I tried the spray arm, much better flow. I took off the filter and cleaned it, no change. The faucet is about a year and a half old, so it's not an age issue.

I need a little a little help troubleshooting. Any suggestions?

There is a cartridge, no doubt under the handle of the single lever that is probably clogged with sediment, or needs replacement. How old is the faucet? How old is the plumbing, and is it copper or galvanized pipe?

Now that I know what I needed to look up, I found how to fix it, and it seems to be working correctly now... However, the handle now has some resistance in turning from hot to cold and turning on that wasn't there before. I don't think it's a big deal, but am I right?

Wow, pretty amazing that you have copper from 1958, I would have thought it would be galvanized for sure! Perhaps it was replaced at some point??

Regardless, try removing the "aerator" from the faucet and see how the water flows then. If it's still the same (slow) then yes, try replacing the "cartridge" within the faucet. You should be able to get one at a plumbing supply store (probably NOT at Home Depot).

On my kitchen faucet, which has a detachable spray head, I often find that the anti-siphon valve in the hose gets clogged. Usually I have to remove the entire spray head from the hose and remove any accumulations in the valving. There's also a little screen there, in addition to the one at the spray head, that may need cleaning.

Updates and Answers

I came home after being out for the day and the problem started again, I'll go underneath it tomorrow and see about the hoses. I checked the water with the aerator, it's fine...

Yes, the copper pipes are original, all the houses in this development have them. However the drain lines were all galvanized, I've replaced most of it with PVC due to rust/clogging issues. I'm currently saving up to replace the drain pipe between the house and the street, it's cracked and has had issues with roots clogging it up.... I can't run the washer, dishwasher, or take a shower at the same time, or it will start backing up. However, the fact that the sink is acting up is more pressing at the moment and everything costs too much money!

Hey Kim,

Yes the gooseneck works great! Thank you! I'm so sorry that I haven't had a chance to call! I have your number sitting on my dresser, but every time I think about it... It is either too early or too late to call!

As for the plumbing, it seems to be working now, I checked the hoses and everything... Let's keep our fingers crossed!
