Pocket Hoses.... Don't buy one.

Ours just bursted on us only after 4 and a half months, amazing.......

 

If you have one, hope this doesn't happen to you.

Travis, I had thought that myself, but I was curious. Thankfully it wasn't much at all, and won't be making that mistake again. 

 

Is Craftsman still good these days?

I like mine

Of course I don't use it for lawn watering, guarden etc. But it is light and easy to grab when cleaning the gutters or washing the car. and so easy to wrap back up and store.

It will never replace a 100 ft heavy duty hose for the traveling sprinkler, but it wasn't designed for heavy usage either.

There is a reason I always,

Buy commercial hoses with solid brass ends.  They last for years and don't blow out like this POS did.

As a Coin-Op car wash manager for many years  I understand Every way a hose can go bad!

An elderly lady that I know bought four of these for just watering the plants on the deck and in the front of their home.  Within a couple of months, one of the two in front was in the trash when it soaked the garage after bursting and she just tossed the other three now that the outdoor watering season has ended.  All were leaking at the end connectors where the hose joins the fittings.

OK.....I'm the crazy one....who has had one for two years....always turn the water off and relieve the pressure, never bring it inside for the winter, I don't drive over it.....just pull it out, water the plants, and hang it back up!....

never a problem....at least so far.....

probably the only issue....they plump up and stretch out when under pressure.....once you squeeze the trigger, its like a comedy movie, it yanks you back to the house!

could be I'm too thin, and can't hold myself down, like in a wind storm, tying my self to a brick......or in the shower, running around to get wet!

We did that all the time. Always shut it off when not in use and kept the valve open so all pressure is out. 

 

The problem is, once that green covering breaks open, that's it, it's done.

Not always the kiss of death, but few products advertised on late night TV are a good deal.

If you need a light weight portable hose with some chops, look at a Myti-Flo. This is a small diameter version of actual commercial fire hose. They are available in 25, 50 and 100 foot lengths.

The 25' version will set up back about twice what the same length "pocket hose" will but these are worth buying.

I Don't Understand:

This is a cheaply-priced "As Advertised on TV" product; why would it be upsetting for a $10 hose to fail quickly?

Not only do you get what you pay for, getting fussed about this is like saying the Popeil Pocket Fisherman can't reel in the marlin like pro gear can.

Bed Bath and Beyond had these by the door and I wanted to try one after seeing them on TV. It was a disappointment from day one with its tiny diameter so it made watering very slow. Always let it drain then turned off the cutoff so that pressure would build and it would get tumescent when the water was turned back on. Well, one day I turned on the water inside at the valve for the outside water so that you don't pay sewage charges on those gallons. Normally, the water would flow long enough to fill the hose and then you would hear the water flow stop. This day, I could actually hear the explosion inside the basement and the water just took off. I knew what I would find outside. It reminded me of the saying, "flew apart faster than a $2.00 suitcase." I looked at the plastic packaging in which it was sold and there was not a word about a warranty. I just wish I had been outside to see it burst. If the green section beyond the bursting place had flown a bit, it might have looked like one of those gliding tree snakes. I was not sad to see it go. It was a piece of crap from day one and further evidence that most of what is advertised in those TV offers is crapola.

Well, at least you don't have to clean out its cage, change its water, or make sure the cat doesn't get it.

I like a decent garden hose, and have 2 Swan Soft & Supple (the 3/4" is about 20 yrs. old), and a Swan commercial rubber hose. Also have a Colorite that is good. All were made in the US. Where was the pocket hose manufactured?
