POD 04/27 James Dishwasher

So exactly what happened to the James Dishwasher? Do you think they really thought that in 1970 all dishwashers would work like theirs? Did they clean that well? Was the concept to radical? Was the company mismanaged? Has anyone ever seen one of the undercounter models?

dishes got broken. Even the pots, were dented?

The concept seems like so much fun.

Like chachp, wanting to know thier story? Must not have been that great?

Scroll down to James dishwasher stuff. To me, looks pretty amazing, and even has a pop up lid! (yeah, I like those kinds of things) I think this is one case where the sales pitch matches reality pretty close, looks like an awesome wash, plus you can watch it!

I am trying to figure out who the owner is of that unit and the set of pics. Perhaps they could give us more info....

The James did do a respectable, but not outstanding job of washing dishes.In 1954,KitchenAid,Hotpoint and American Kitchens Roto-Tray cleaned best,and James was at least average.However,with one of today's excellent powdered enzyme detergents, such as Cascade Complete,the James would do very,very well in overall performance.Today's detergents are that much better.The James is a fun,compact,and somewhat rare dishwasher,that,for a brief time,sold well.

I had James dishwasher

It was a good machine. Fun to watch but did not hold that much compared to a full size machine. Before I came out of the appliance closet......... I gave it to someone to use. Never saw it again. I wish I had a few of the machines I gave away. I can not find them again & back then they were just old dishwashers. If I knew then what I know now...... Michael

Mine was a portable, I have never seen another one let alone a built in or stove model. Michael

We had one which we got second hand in the 1967-1968 time frame--stainless inside. I still remember the pop-up glass lid...I was barely big enough to look inside. The glasses went on flat racks along the sides--plates went angled (parallel, like they say) down the middle. DK what happened with flatware.

We moved across the street and got a new Sears 2-button front loading portable, then built it in later.

James Appliance Manufacturing--Who Knows What About????

The James Dishwasher Brochure I have just noticed in the <strong style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: -webkit-standard;">Ephemera Library, as a recent addition, has just</strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;"> me to have also been wondering about the company--when it was established and when it folded, and Web searches I have done resulted more in retailers, and at least one overseas manufacturer (and established in 2001, at that!) than given me any valuable info...</span>
