Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

But Tom, she's a model, Prolly weighed all of 90 pounds lol. The dispenser's clogged, the Sta Puf pooled in the plastic funnel. Never had that happen on our 800, but at least it is being poured in the correct side.

I agree, bring back Sta-Puf!

I wish they would bring back Sta-Puf as well. Elegant proof of how greedy and unresponsive are the execs of these industries. Most of our machines whether they be HE front loaders or TOL's with dispensers need the opposite of what they're trying to sell us, all of these super concentrated softener formulas. They clog the dispensers and, oh dear, "encourage" us to use more than we need. As it is I dilute everything I buy 1:1 with water because, of course I only need 1/3 of the normal dose for the LG. They'll probably catch on soon, dilute the stuff at the factory, throw on a "HE compatible!" label on it and charge twice as much for the stuff. And nobody but the members of this site will know the difference.

Do any of you use the cheap pink store brands?

A comment about the washer in the pic -

That is an interesting 'hybrid' washer - 1972 production with the notched lid, but the 1971 control panel. Is that a notched lid I see? Sure seems like it. Someone recently had one of those in a video - Kevin I think when down at John's in San Diego?

Sta-puf was my mom's favorite fabric softener. She had another favorite in a blue bottle (not Downy) but for the life of me I can't think of the name right now.

Final Touch and LK

My grandmother swore by Final Touch-- Its all she ever used. My Mother had a Lady Kenmore she bought in 1971 or 1972 Series 800-- was a great machine, Hers did not have the "Keys" on it-- just the dial and other knobs-- but I don't think it had a notched lid-- had the handle in the top of the lid

Final Touch was another good one. My Mom always used it. Sta Puf was her second choice until Rain Barrel came out. "Final Touch with bluing for extra whiteness". It was great, had a fresh, clean scent. not flowery like the ones today.

Fabric Softener

I have to agree with the two of you: Final Touch is excellent.

I still use it, as it was the kind used by my grandmother, as well.

Gordon:

It does look like the notched lid in the picture which is very interesting because it has the bleach and fabric softener dispensers in the lower left corner of the lid well like the chrome handled models did. Makes me wonder.

Love the cartoon by the way.

Have a good one,
James

Is the Final Touch that's made today the same as the original Final Touch, or has it been improved and updated? I saw some at the grocery store the other and thought I about getting some, but changed my mind because Eric is allergic to Downy and Snuggle, and figured he would probably be allergic to Final Touch as well.

No, the final touch today is not the same as it was. It is reminisant of what is was, but, just not the same. Just like downy use to smell really good, now after reformulation, well lets just say it's not "April Fresh" any more.

Nu-Soft

Another "blue" fab soft in the early seventies was Nu-Soft, does anyone else remember this?

I think I will get a bottle of Final Touch the next time I'm at the store, just for the heck of it. I sit and look at and remember doing laundry with my mom in the old Maytag wringer.
