The first one of this type of Frigidaire washer is actually the first Frigidaire I ever saw operate. I was in about 2nd grade and a neighbor lady showed me her machine, since she noticed I was paying attention to it. It was a BOL Frigidaire 1957 model with the tower control, which I am sure I thought looked really cool. She proceeded to put a load of laundry in and start it, letting me watch it wash, spin and rinse. I was mesmerized by it. I had never seen anything move so fast! The pulsator was like a vibrator it moved so quickly and pulled the clothes under moving them so vigorously. It sure was different than mom's '57 Norge washer. Anyway, that made a lasting impression on me and furthered my interest in washers and dryers. The pulsamatic has always been my favorite to watch in action of the Frigidaire washers. I think the pulsamatic is the only Frigidaire washer you were not supposed to be able to use a Jet Cone agitator in.

After looking of this P.O.D., I went to YouTube and watched what appeared to be a Unimatic at high speed video.

Does any one here have a video or a link to a Pulsamatic in operation ? Thanks.

1956 Model

This is the 1956 year model of the pulsamatic. I have the matching dryer to this machine. It is a "vented" model not the filtrator as the Unimatic version. Was not the best dryer but works sufficiently.

Unlike the Unimatic, these machines were prone to sudz-lock especially with the very high sudsing detergents of the time. Dump some Wisk from the can into this type of machine without careful measuring would almost certainly be cause to pop the motor overload button on the first spin. I never saw any other machine make a sudz-cake as fast as one of these can. They are fun, action filled entertainment. Too bad they also tangled the clothes.

Bruce, It would be funny to see what a Deep-Action Agitator would do in one of these!

Robert and I tried all of the solid tub agitators in his 57 Pulsamatic when he first got it. Because of the shorter stroke of the pulsamatic, none of the pulsators, columns or the space-capsule made any appreciable difference in action. IIRC, the smaller pulsator of the Deep-Action made for a pretty pathetic turnover, the faster and shorter stroke depended upon the larger pulsator (energy ring) at the bottom of the tub to create enough current to move the wash load.

For the brief time I used a Frigidaire "Jumping Jack" agitator washer-you had to load it according to the pictures on the lid.Also replaced a timer in this machine-was my brothers.Used it while going to college.However were these washers the culprits for the tangled load that was shown in a Maytag ad from a B&G magazine from the 50's-the caption said "Whipped Wash!"I didn't have this-guess other folks did.My brothers wife complained about tangling and knotting.
