Looks like the first Frigidaire "pulsamatic" machine. Apparently this was a less expensive model introduced for people on a more limited income. They were a one speed, one cycle unit that worked pretty well.

Fill?

Was this timed or metered fill? I think it's cool looking. I've never used the low speed on any washer I've owned, for anything. Waste of choice for me.

It was timed. All Frigidaire washers up until right before the end of the solid tub machines were timed fill. There were a few middle of the line and top of the line machines with a solid tub at the very end of the solid tub machines that were meter fill machines. They accomplished that much the same way speed queen did at the end of their solid tub machines. They had a separate small plastic tank that filled as the machine filled the tub and when it got to the right level, it started washing.

1956 PULSAMATIC

THESE MACHINES WERE THE "BUDGET" MACHINES FOR FRIGIDAIRE. ONLY MADE 3 YEARS ('55,'56, & '57) - THEY HAD A FASTER AGITATION AND A SLOWER SPIN SPEED THAN THE UNIMATIC.

Yes this POD is the second year of the Pulsamatic washer. The Pulsamatic (along with the and ABC/Kelvinator) are the quietest automatic washers I have ever experienced (with the exception of the 15 to 20 second water-throw at the start of spin).

I have the 1957 Pulsamatic in my collection and it's one of my favorite washers as my grandmother had the last of these machines, the'58 Pulsamatic when I was little in her kitchen. IMO the agitation is better overall in the Unimatic/Multimatic/Rollermatic models, but the Pulsamatic is super fun for sure!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I would swear I have worked on a 1960 BOL model that was a pulsamatic before.

I grew up with a 55

Pulsamatic, I remember one thing, it would tie up everything in knots..LOL, My Grandmother LOVED it, She bought it to replace her 1938 Apex wringer.
