Frigidaire changed their design from 1960 and the 1961 washer and dryer were both 27" wide. The washer had a somewhat larger tub and the dryer was made to vent out like most other dryers of the time. They did make the dryer pictured here that was self contained and did not vent out, but it took much longer to dry clothes. Their washers washed, rinsed and spun out quite well. As always, their models were very stylish and attractive. There was still the problem of tangling that they suffered until the jet cone agitator was introduced. The independent testing says it was done with 6 different washers, makes you wonder which ones were chosen....

Which has a bigger capacity? A vintage Frigidaire from the mid 60's, or a mid 60's Maytag with the deep tub?

It's not a matter of which machine can hold more per load, it's a matter of how much FUN it is to watch... and Frigidaires are fun!!!

But to answer your question, any large capacity washer will hold more than any standard capacity washer from the 60's or otherwise, Frigidaire included.

The design/styling of the '61 pair is excellent. The clamshell-shaped console is gorgeous. The agitators from this era are eye candy, as well. The colorful rings and cap really make it pop. GM spared no expense in design. It seemed as though the line was restyled almost yearly for awhile. Consider the major changes in consoles between 1955-1968, for example.
