You could get away with using Tide in the solid tub Filter Flo machines because the suds went over the top of the tub and there was a pause in the spin after the wash water drained out that was supposed to help kill the suds, but high sudsing detergents did not do as well in the perforated tub GEs where the filter pan generated lots of suds that would sudslock the machine in the spin-drain.

Vintage Tide, of course, sudslocked the '62 Whirly *really* much.
Our neighbors had a '58 LK and used TIDE. It burned out the motor within a short time so after that only ALL was used in the machine. Suds were not as much of a problem in the Bendix Economat that the LK replaced.
