Ok, I understand being desperate enough to stick your head in a gas oven...but drying your hair in the gas dryer? Norge must have been out of their minds...or were women in those days more daring than I am?
Weirdness factor 100%...even if I like the "flame can't wear out" line...sort of like the Pearl Bailey "If it ain't there, it can't break" for the FLs.
Probably have nightmares from this one.
Or should I ask where the little tray is to dry my fingernails, too?

No, a flame can't wear out, but burner ports, like in the Norge cast iron drilled port burner can clog with lint. Norge, in fact, changed the burner position from having the holes on top to having them on the bottom to lessen the chance for lint clogging. They also used to talk about how much cleaner their drilled port burners burned compared with "gun-type" burners like WP uses before they themselves changed to that type of burner. Standing pilots, which Norge used, can sure cause a lot of rust and can turn the vinyl insulation on wires to goo. Also the thermocouple which keeps the pilot burning can stop working. One thing about a gas dryer though, they won't burn out a heating element if the vent is clogged; the house, maybe, but not the heating element.

The burner input was not that much higher than a gas oven and with the amount of air that a Norge moved, it probably was not that dangerous. If I had any idea that it could have been, I would have learned to wash and set my mother's hair at home, just so I could put her under...the hood, yes, under the hood on that hair dryer attachment.
