I am going by the appearance of the lady in guessing that this was more than 20 years ago. If I'm off, feel free to have this moved.

Question: On toploaders that heated a full tub of water, did they ever have a provision for saving the hot water water like sudsavers in the US? Thanks.

at least 40 years old

This Hoover top loader with heater is an Australian model. Back in the day hot water was a luxury, often only 50 or so gallons stored in a gravity fed tank in the roof heated only by night with half price electricity. Most automatic machines came with the heater option. They also all had the suds saver built into their program. Yes, you could save the suds but you had to have a second laundry tub to store them or a stand pipe to drain the rinse water. When the cycle was complete you dialed to suds return and the machine pumped the water back to the wash tub and topped off to level with fresh water at which time you could reset the heater or just finish the wash with the previously heated water

The Hoover 565

My Mum had the model below this one, without a heater. It was huge and from memory and quite noisy. The machise was made by Hoover at Moorebank Sydney. We had a 200 gallon off peak gravity fed hot water tank that sat in roof void abve the laundry. this would supply Mums Saturday washing needs.
We had to use the suds save because the septic tank would overflow if too many washes and dishwasher cycles were done between pump out visits. They went to Sydney Water mains sewer in 1995.

The suds saver was let the washing water fill the laundry tub and then REMEMBER to drag the drain hone into the tub bypass hole at the back of the laundry tub before the rince drains and floods teh laundry & kitchen.
To get the water back into the machine (no clothes in the washing machine) you spun the dial around to the last part of the gentle cycle spin, put the drain hose into the laundry tub and started the spin cycle. The drain hose burped and bubbled a bit. the cycle finished and the wash water from the laundry tub would syphon back into the machine. You then top up with HOT water, add some deteregent and clothes and start the cycle. Mum would reuse the wash water twice and then send it to the septic tank.
