POD 24" KMs - soft spot

Don't know why but I have a soft spot for these, it may have something to do with the low profile full-width badge on the back of the cabinets. Those dryers sure did have a lot of heat output for a small design, didn't they? I remember seeing them once in a Sears and getting shooed off buy a salesman, told to "go over and play in 'Toys"...man, those were my Toys!!! lol

I see your point Stainfighter, put me down for the set on top, every gadget you would ever need and all for less than $300.  Hard to believe, they would last 25 years or more if you took care of them. alr2903

The set on top was very very popular. These are 500 series machines and pretty much at the beginning of Sears' 'bread and butter' models. I have had several of that machine over the years (one was in the ill-fated trailer) and they were always easy to sell. This is a 1970 model, but they were available well into 1972 and the last of them had the notched lid handle revision.

There was a two-speed, two cycle cousin version of the washer with one water level that was quite similar. It was $15 cheaper. The panel was the same style but tan in color with a black and chrome knob. It must have been just under that threshold of consumer interest because I've never seen one of those, whereas this one was common.

This was probably the lowest-end model with the 3 basic cycles anyone could want or need on a very tight budget.

 

As for those 24" BOL models, I had a neighbor who bought the house next door when I was living in my first house.  their laundry was in the garage so I saw them.  I literally thought, who in the hell would buy such a cheap basic unit.  They REALLY must have been scrapin the bottom of the barrel to be able to buy these.  They both were pick-up drivers.  I figured even her undies were rugged lol.  Ick!!
