These days, you spend $1,500.00 on a front-loader and get a $1.00 off coupon and a single-use packet that has sprung a leak somewhere between the factory and your house.

was dad unemployed? LOL

There was no weekend delivery back in the day, at least not where I grew up. Our mothers routinely left us alone to go visiting, run an errand, go to choir practice/PTA/etc., or even to work, at a way younger age than what is considered appropriate today. And we weren't in constant contact with cell phones, either.
