Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Looking at the Norge dispensomat washer, it just struck me how the dispensomat angled out from the control panel. For a number of years Norge washer lids opened back, but not all the way. They would open about 3/4 way up and then hold there, suspended in mid air. My aunt had a 63 Norge in her kitchen (BOL, not a dispensomat) that was like that. I always wondered why they designed the lid that way. Now I'm thinking maybe it was to accommodate the shape of the control panel dispensomat on their TOL models.

Hey, that might explain the similarity of the hardware. Thanks. I wonder if those are roller shades covering the shelves. With no dangling pull to hold, you almost have to have a reach that extends to the height of the shade mounting to make full use of the shelves and I guess that if the little grip ever slipped out of the user's hands, the shade would fly up and do the flappity flap flap as it wrapped around itself. Then the user would have to get out the step stool to pull it back down unless the response was "to hell with it." On the other hand, those might be expensive tambour-type shades moving in a track which would probably be too fancy for a laundry.
