This washer is a unimatic machine and the lower one is a pulsamatic. Those were the two mechanisms Frigidaire made at this time. If I am not mistaken, I think this was in 1955. The pulsamatic machines had a shorter, faster stroke. It was almost a vibratory action, it was so quick. The agitator for most of the pulsamatic machines was the one piece black bakelite one, although the later ones had grayish plastic top agitators with the cap and dispenser inside the top piece. Once upon a time, in the mid 80's, I picked up a Frigidaire pulsamatic machine like the one in the bottom of this POD and instead of fixing it, I junked it out and used the tub since I needed it for another machine. I have regretted that ever since I realized later that it had been a pulsamatic machine.
