Interesting 1956 Whirlpool Imperial washer, and I imagine that this was Whirlpool’s first washer to have 2 speeds. The gentle speed was probably used for delicate fabrics, and was probably used to wash Wash N Wear/Permanent Press items before the Wash N Wear cycle debuted in 1958 for the Imperial Mark 12 models.
 
I think 7 rinses in spray rinses. My KM portable washer either did 6 or 7 spray rinses when it did the spray rinses

It was just a bit oversold... There are three spray rinses during the spin between the wash and deep rinse, then three additional spray rinses during the final spin. 7 deep rinses and you'd be using as much water as a GE Combo... LOL
