Interesting 1956 Whirlpool Imperial washer, and I imagine that this was Whirlpool’s first washer to have 2 speeds. The gentle speed was probably used for delicate fabrics, and was probably used to wash Wash N Wear/Permanent Press items before the Wash N Wear cycle debuted in 1958 for the Imperial Mark 12 models.

It was just a bit oversold... There are three spray rinses during the spin between the wash and deep rinse, then three additional spray rinses during the final spin. 7 deep rinses and you'd be using as much water as a GE Combo... LOL

So basically they added a few random pauses in the two spray rinses to up the "rinse count"?
My mothers Kenmore had several spray rinses while spinning for about 10 seconds each in both after wash and after rinse.
And in the later models there were four spin/spray rinses before and after the actual rinse cycle...adding up to NINE rinses..! As the marketing folks liked to tout...
