GE is advertising what becomes their biggest claim to fame in automatic washers. Filter Flo became synonymous with GE automatic washers. The Filter Flo system did work quite well at picking up lint and hair. The filter was easy to clean out and required no extra care to do so. The washer itself did a good job of cleaning, rinsing and spinning the load of clothes and held a little more than average too. They were good machines for the time.

When did GE switch to a molded plastic Filter-Flo pan that fit over the agitator cap?

From what I have seen, in 1960 I think that happened right before introducing the V12 in 1961. As I recall, the replacement lint filter pan included the plastic pan and a rubber piece that slid over the top of the agitator on the old style solid tub agitator for the filter to slide onto. The 1960 model is one of my all time favorites.
