I remember the stamp book catalog, but not quite this far back. By the time I noticed this catalog they had Maytag washers and dryers in them and no dishwashers that I recall. That dishwasher is the step up from the one on here with the teal blue top the seller is so proud of. Seems like there were Gunn Brothers, Gold Bond and S & H green stamps that all had places where you could get items in exchange for the stamp books you had. Grocery stores and other places gave these trading stamps. I remember that my Aunt had an entire cabinet full of green stamps when her house caught on fire and they all went up in smoke. Just another thing of the past now. Been a while....

Stores used "we give S&H Green Stamps" (or whatever) to attract customers. I recall only Green Stamps and Gold Bond stamps in our household. Stores of all kinds---especially, as you mentioned, Bruce, grocery stores and gas stations---gave them out. My mom had a drawer where she kept hers and it was usually my job to lick the stamps and put them in their books.

We never accumulated enough books of stamps to purchase a major appliance. Mom would look through the catalog and decide what she wanted. We'd go to the redemption center and she'd pick out a particular serving dish, a piece of Corning Ware, a small home furnishing or a toaster/coffeepot/electric knife, etc.

This POD was really a blast from the past!

Well, Gunn Brothers stamps were what Safeway stores used to give with purchases. I think they were one of the first to bite the bullet and then Gold Bond, followed by S & H green stamps. I do recall when S & H green stamps announced their closing and everyone hurried to redeem what stamps they had for whatever there was left to get.

The dishwasher and some of the small appliances look pretty good.
That lame Combo would piss me off if I had collected all those books of stamps and then got a washer that couldn't extract water and a dryer that ran forever because of it.

We had

Green stamps and Family stamps, my Aunt saved Raleigh cupons and got a Raleigh catalog, Raleigh was a cigarette.Mother bought our 1140 Dial A Matic in 1969 with Family Stamps.

Ambassador range

This is a great post for me. I have the Ambassador stove and have never seen any ads for it ever. This stove is a heavy beast that cooks wonderfully. What year was this ad from?

Correct me if wrong but

I believe the Westy Combo is a 1957 model so the catalog page would be from that year. [this post was last edited: 7/31/2017-11:50]

And the ad for the range was updated just three days ago. Too bad there wasn't a member near that could help Hans out in getting it.

norgeway

That is too funny!!!! I just remembered that my mother used her green stamps to get a Hoover dial o matic too!!! That thing was the biggest POS I ever used for a vacuum cleaner!!! LOL
