The old GE filter flow washers were well-made and reliable. They did have awesome turnover if not overloaded and did clean clothes well, if a bit harshly. It didn't matter back then, but those machines were really water hogs. A big outer tub also filled with water. IIRC, they basically used the same outer tub as with their previous, solid inner tub designs.

Really? That seems crazy. I'm familiar with KMs BD & DD, & '63 Frigidaire. No GE machines. I don't think I missed much. Wash on.

Truth

Unlike other brands, the outer tub of the GE was bolted to the cabinet. In fact, the top of the washer doubled as the top of the outer tub. So instead of the inner and outer tub riding on the suspension, only the inner tub did. This left a lot of room on the side and bottom for lots and lots of extra water, and why they had that funky, huge tub seal between the outer tub and the transmission to accommodate the movement and balancing of the inner tub during spin.

I disagree .. with the water hog misconception I filled my large capacity Ge filter flo or hotpoint rim flo to the top highest level then I drained it into a 90’s direct drive filling it only to the medium level totally drained out .. try it you’ll see. Look at the older 60’s models washers with the constant OVERFLOW RINSING ALL YOUR FABRIC SOFTNER AWAY!! Those were the water wasters !!!

Reply #3, Hi Paul It is true the GE FF did not use that much more water than other extra large TL washers, BUT GEs big washers did not hold nearly as much clothing as the Super capacity DDs or the SC BD WP built machines.
