The early Philco automatic washer and dryer seems to look little like the machines most of us remember. They had a solid tub similar to Hotpoint machines and a straight shaped traditional agitator. Notice that the pump looks like an old Speed Queen pump. I have only seen one of this style machine many years ago and it must have been either a newer model or fancier model, since it had more knobs than this machine does. I believe they made this style of machine until about 1957-58 when they came out with the newer machines with the rubber fin at the bottom. Those machines were ones that most of us remember who were old enough to have been around.

The very definition of a no-frills washer; simple and direct. Changing wash/rinse temps would be interesting if there wasn't easy access to the faucets...but if the budget so dictated, I'd take it over a conventional/wringer machine.

It's the same as my '56 Dexter except for the more decorative lighted console and water temp. switch.

Bruce the tub is like the old Hotpoint, as you say. It has large drain holes at the top and during agitation the water-level will easily drop a couple of inches from the top as it sloshes out the holes. That being said, an 8lb. load sounds about right.

I think I would rather use one of these rather than a conventional machine,as well!
