In the Big Bang Theory episode after Howard's mother has died and they are trying to sort & sell off the excess stuff from the house, they are outside the garage and, in a few shots, you can see the almond version of this style of machines in the laundry room. Howard's mother washed a lot. I doubt that he would know how to use them; he was too spoiled. He would not even do laundry in coin op machines which was the topic of another episode.

Where is the detergent dispenser located? Ad says it automatically adds diluted detergent. Liquid only? Please tell me it isn't one of those scams where you put diluted liquid detergent in the softener dispenser when a prewash is selected.

The last mechanical pushbutton LK was circa 1974. Electronics (belt-drive) debuted in ~1977. Direct-drive LKs either were initially only rotary-dial, or the electronics were "Limited Edition" with rotarys also offered at a lower price point.
The dispensers be something like this.

Notice the right-hand corner of the soap dispenser, which is the cup on the right. A tiny plastic pin and a smaller, removable cup came with this machine. This pin is a flow diverter. Inserting the pin into place, then fitting the smaller cup into the soap dispenser allows for the use of liquid detergent. In the state shown in the above pic, powdered detergent can be used.
This dispenser was flushed at the start of each cycle for about two minutes, then normal fill commenced.
@tomturbomatic: I enjoy imagining that some time around the arrival of the first baby, Bernadette had a good, hard talk with Howard, he said "yes, dear", and began helping out loading up those front loaders just off the back patio...

Apparently my wishful thinking vision of Lady Kenmore is bookended at 1959 on one end and 1974 on the other.
I'll rationalize it this way: I didn't care for their first two albums or anything they released after '74.
