I guess Borateem is probably a thing of the past too. I never used it regularly, so I am not sure how well it worked. I do remember this later model Philco washer though. They were unusual machines in how they washed and in the cycles they provided on many of their machines. This one has a knob for speed and another for the load size. The temperatures are preset by the cycle you use. Some of their machines had the speed built into the cycle too, so they were not very versatile machines. I worked on many of the older style units and the newer ones too. They did wash and rinse the clothes pretty well, but didn't spin out all that well. The clothes were a little damper than what a Whirlpool/Kenmore would be of the same vintage. I do remember when they quit making Philco washers and dryers. Seems like it was about '69 or '70 that Otasco sold of the last of their stock of them and acquired GE washers and dryers to sell along with Speed Queen. I rather liked Philco washers because they were different in their washing action. Their dryers were very slow at drying & the lint filter was inconvenient to remove for cleaning, even more so matched with a Philco washer since they left the clothes so damp. I once had that very fancy set with all the push buttons and liked it in spite of the slow drying. It would be interesting to know exactly when Philco quit making washers and dryers.
