Is this a 24" machine? The photo makes it look narrow; I was wondering if it really was. Often the narrow tub had the older-style three vane agitator.

Yes this is diffidently a 24", 16 gallon, 8 pound capacity washer, Sears often featured smaller machines in ads as a clever bait&switch tactic knowing when most people came and looked at the sale priced machine they would buy the bigger machine.

Could 24" machines ever have a sudsaver or wasn't there enough room in the cabinet for the hoses and suds valve?

Yes, 24-inch suds-saver machines were available. The stock number for the machine in the POD would be 51651 instead of 11651, and a full model number would be something like 110.85165100. It looks like 24-inch suds models were available in the 1980s, but not in the second half of the 1970s as I can find no 1970s suds models after 1974 until 1981. It may be that Sears started offering suds versions of the 24-inch models after they discontinued all the 29-inch standard tub belt-drives during 1981.
As to the agitator, the gold straight vane that is featured on the picture of the day machine was the most common agitator in 24-inch machines 1968 and later (for many years the only agitator offered in a Kenmore). By 1980 there were a few 24s with the standard capacity DA, but they were and are rare.
The gold 1968 straight vane is very well suited to the 24-inch machines, being slightly smaller in diameter than the Super Roto-Swirl. When you said "older style 3-vane agitator" do you mean the bakelite version? If so, the gold polypropylene agitator replaced the bakelite agitator in 1968. I think the newer agitator is a bit less splashy than the bakelite version, as its fins are not as tall.
I have used several 24-inch machines the past two years, built in 1968 and 1982. I find them to be quite competent machines, which hold a larger load than one would expect. The machine in the POD had some cousins, including models with SC filters and DA agitators. It seems that most 24-inch models from this era had the plastic control panels, but I'd love to find one of these more MOL models, especially with a manual filter.

I remember the laundry tub-mounted sudsaver for the DD machines.
