POD...and thermostat questions on 40" Frigidare

What a GREAT GE stove!!! Late 50's, early 60's? Wish I had a mint one to solve my problem! Wonder when GE stopped the pushbutton controls? I've seen a few in white or coppertone that I guess to be late 60's early 70's...

OK..now for a question..Have a 40" 1969 Frigidare Custom Imperial range (standard, not the Flair) 2 ovens- one is self cleaning.

Neither oven will come up to temp...have replaced one element..didn't help. Small oven worked when I moved in; soon developed same low temp problem. I suspect both thermostat controls need to be replace or rebuilt... Any ideas where I might find help?

Unfortunately, the new kitchen cabinets were built around this stove. So, buying a new 30" won't work; the only 40" ranges I see now are commercial ones, and expensive. I guess I could try to find another vintage, but afraid of the same problem occuring.

If it weren't for the trusty 1954 30" Figidare in the basement, I'd have to give up baking! Please, any info would be appreciated!

Just trying to help diagnosis here,

I guess first thing, sounds like they are heating up some, and if so, does changing the temp setting change how much they heat, ie setting on 300 gets to 200, 350 gets to 250, or no matter what temp setting is they only heat to a certain degree? Has the range been moved or something that could have caused thermostat damage?

Make sure you have a full 220V at the plug,and you don't have a fuse blown,or circuit breaker tripped.

GE Range

I purchased a 1968 GE 40" range last year on e-bay and it has the push buttons and 2 ovens. The guy that I bought it from replaced the tempurature sensor so it works like new. (or it will when I get a home) My ex got a 40" GE range off e-bay and it has dials and I believe it is a 1970 model.

Thanks folks for the ideas...Breaker is not tripped. Hadn't thought to check the voltage at the oulet, but should have- I am an electrician!! It is possible that the wire coming into the outlet, or the cord is not making good contact- something could be loose. Tend to think not though, burners work perfectly( the fat coils!), even the "Heat Minder".

Could well be the temp. senor, but don't they come already attached to the thermostat knob? At least it did in the one I helped my Dad replace some years ago...I remember it being a bit tricky to thread the sensor and attached wire into the oven

Glad to hear that 40" ranges are still available for a reasonable price...As nice as it would be to have a commercial range here (esp. with gas burners, but dual electric ovens-- my dream!!), the money would be better spent on other home projects.
