With the exception of the best water extraction, all of the statements they make ignore the front loader washers marketed at the same time. I think that by 1957, both Philco and Westinghouse TOL models offered cold water rinsing.

Wow, didn't know that. There have certainly been many of them that survived! I am curious if that was the only year they made the charcoal color I have seen of those sets. That was also very futuristic too. It took nearly another 30 years for anyone else to make black appliances.

I am totally amazed…..it shows how much I didn't know. I have NEVER actually seen a set like either of them. You are certainly right about them being criminally gorgeous!!!! That color must not have been a popular one back then. I once had a hotpoint set in the copper tone color that was TOL and lit up. It was a truly gorgeous set too. I think they were called Silhouette. If Frigidaire made that color thru 1960, can you imagine how beautiful a charcoal 1960 Custom Imperial set would have been?!!!!

The sad truth about the charcoal color is that every drop of even clear water, let alone water with detergent in it that dried left white spots and film, like in the under the lid area, and it was a real b to keep clean and new looking.

If you were a horrible housekeeper, it was probably a good color for a range; even chips did not show as badly.
