POD June 9th, 2021 - Preway dishwashers

I first saw an ad for the side-arm Preway in an old BH&G Kitchen Planning book - I can only guess they were not around for very long (despite having placement in the Clampett's Beverly Hills TV kitchen... LOL).  I would love to get to see one in the wild, but I would be very suprised if any made it up here to Canada. 

 

But what if... Youngstown or Frigidaire had ever teamed up with them;  imagine the twin side spray arms and a central spin-tube as as a washing system.  The Youngstown 30-inch diswasher could have been a success  LOL

Preway 180F Gas Dishwasher

There is one here in Beltsville waiting to be installed in the Great Wall Of Dishwashers.

 

Really interesting machine, it uses a lawn mower spark plug to ignite the gas.

While I've seen a Preway gas oven and cooktop in a house, I've never seen the gas dishwasher. 

 

I noticed in the ad that the construction of the gas model is totally different than that of the electric dishwasher shown. This leads me to believe that another company (likely D&M, as it appears to have the Roto-rack) made it for them.

I want one, 180° final rinse,"new" pop open door

Wow, thanks to POD I am learning many useful innovations are not new, just reintroduction of things the modern 50's,60's and 70's offered the modern householder. I would rather have a fridge door pedal opener than an app to tell me the temperature while sitting in the living room.

Tom, you got it - the Preway roto-rack was made by D&M (like about a dozen other brands...lol)

Thanks for the confirmation, Paul. I think that machine originated as American Kitchens and Crosley models.
