So I’ve seen this Philco-Bendix ad before, and am curious as to how the lint filter, detergent/bleach/fabric softener dispensers work. It looks like a filter-flo design, so how could it time the proper dispensing to what needed to go when? Hard to tell from the picture...

What would the agitator have looked like in this washing machine?

not an expert on this machine

but I'll give my guess. I think the agitator was the Philco-Dexter angel-wing design that was used in their wringer washers and twin tub wringers. This angel-wing design agitator was used in the earlier solid-tub Dexter automatics and was replaced with the "blades of water" pulsator-type agitator in later Philco top loaders. I think Gyrafoam has a Dexter top loader with this agitator.

I'm not sure, but I think the filter was a pump type filter, sort of like a Norge filter of the same time period. Perhaps it used "fingers" to scoop up the water like the Speed Queen solid tub machine agitator filters did. The detergent was most likely dumped directly into the filter to be dispensed when the wash action began. The fabric softener would be held in a compartment and released through centrifical force during the first spin cycle into the filer to be dispensed into the rinse water.
