Polishing and restoring chrome on iron shoe

Hey guys, I need a Bit of a hand, how do I restore chrome on a vintage iron shoe without having it to be re-plated,I just wanted to be smooth enough to actually do ironing with

What's wrong with soleplate of iron? Is it dirty? Scratched? Has caked on starch and other residue?

You can either purchase ready made cleaner for iron soleplate, or try any of the suggestions below.

Have always used a scotchbrite pad with a little scouring powder/cream when clean polish with windex or similar.
