OH good grief Mike!! Well, that question has been answered--what did your sister replace with the LGs. How many couplers did she go through on this washer? And Luigi, take note, Mike's sister apparently does bigger "Bob loads" that I apparently ever have done. Yikes!!!

DEAR GOD!!! Thats COMPLETE appliance abuse! I can't even imagine what it takes to do that to a dryer!(those pictures are VERY disturbing!!)

I remember a time when she stuffed 16 pairs of jeans into a Maytag washer. I came home to hear my washer groaning and I opened the lid to find the jeans packed in all the way to the top touching the lid. She was banned from using the washer.
How she killed her Whirlpool was she would load the washer like I told her to...top row of holes and thats it...when the washer was filling ..of course the load starts to shrink down then she would add more clothes. EGADS!! She stripped the clutch dogs on the agitator and bent the frame of the suspension system so that there was a constant thud during spin and the tub would head to the back of the machine where the tripod was bent. Then when it was time for the dryer...its only a 6.5 cuft dryer ...she could have used a 9 cuft one by the time she was done...clothes were always wrinkled and it didnt matter to her and the clothes were being worn out too fast.
My niece and nephew loved it when I did the laundry at my house since the clothes always smelled nice and they were clean. Key word clean since she loves to use cold water...not just cold city water but cold well water that the temps hovers at 35 degrees. So imagine what the clothes looked like when they came out...like they didnt even get washed.

Egadds is right. I had a friend of mine that did the same thing with her 1991 Maytag Fabric-Matic. But, she'd wait until it started agitating. She also did it with the Kenmore 400 they had that was from the late 1960s. Such a good uncle you are Mike. But you always have been.

Yikes! You'd think her clothes would be in shreds!
What was actually wrong with the washer & dryer? (besides the missing vane in the dryer ;-) I've seen (and re-sold) many machines like this... A new drive coupler, maybe a neutral drain repair kit and a good cleaning and the washer is ready to go!

Whats wrong...
The washer needs to have its water valve cleaned ...its plugged up with sand. The tripod needs to be fixed or replaced. More than likely the suspension pads need to be replaced. The agitator needs to be replaced. The motor is ok and so is the drive coupling. The washer still drain like a Whirlpool..neutral. And yeah it needs a good bath and scrubbing to get the years of crap off the tub ring. I figure that its easy enough on these to fix.
The dryer needs a new heating element and rear wheels and I will have to pull the lint chute out and clean it of lint. I am also going to replace the filter..some how there is a hole in it. And replace the drum vane and maybe the seals for the drum.
By the time I get rid of them I hope to break even on what needs to be put in it. If not then they will go in my basement and be used.
