The pan is an aluminum sandwich with stainless inside and chrome outside. I am a huge fan of electric skillets and enjoy the even heat.

West Bend!

No, believe it or not, Its all aluminum, it just has been taken care of and is still polished!

Hans is correct.  West Bend's bread & butter over the years was, and continues to be, aluminum ware.  Even my circa 1970 West Bend Country Kettle is a very heavy aluminum.  It's so heavy you'd think it was stainlees steel, but it's not.  Is your skillet completely immersible, minus the control?

Thanks for the shot of the cover. I remember the steam vent being under the cover knob on a WB skillet in a neighbor's house. I was like effing R2D2 when I walked into a kitchen, I had everything visible to the human eye memorized, cataloged and evaluated, even as a youngster.

Electric skillets are great!

I love 'em. Found one very similar to that at Goodwill. It joined my 80s vintage Presto that I bought from Sears new, and my 2 Corningware Electromatic skillets.

i like electric skillets as well-very handy-mostly I use them for pancakes and french toast.Have a Farberware and a Sunbeam-the Sunbeam was found at a yard sale.Its old and somewhat well used-but works fine.

I have a vintage Sunbeam skillet that our own dear Kelly "Mixfinder" gifted to me, and it makes the best pineapple upside-down cake, among other things.  Perfect, even heat at all times.  I love that it is completely immersible, and therefore safe to put in the dishwasher.  Comes out sparkling everytime.

I have four Sunbeam mixers I bought from Kelly-they are great-they get more use than my Viking mixer.Sunbeams make such nice CREAMY mashed potatoes!And he provided some attachments and manuals for the machines-They get some use,too.Thank You Kelly!My Sunbeam fix has been fullfilled.The Sunbeams my Grandmother,Mother, and Stepmother are long gone.The Sunbeams do so well in making batters and similar things.

Electric Wonder

I enjoy frying, grilling, steaming and braising in anything that is thermostatically controlled. The griddle that Hans pictured makes breakfast a snap, no more guess work and everything is browned perfectly. Like Tom's mom I hate grease speckles on the range so I always set the frying pan next to the sink or sometimes even in the sink making cleaning up a breeze. If the pan is heavy enough a Sensitemp burner can function much the same but you're back to cleaning the range. I like the new Sunbeam frying pans (60s) that had the tilt and fry leg and a racheting clip on the lid to cantelever over the pan as a splatter shield.

My in laws had a full set of West Bend cookware that was aluminum exterior with a squat or slightly round posture, copper tone lids and a stainless liner. In the 70's West Bend made cookware with colored exteriors with decal graphics and stainless liners. They also had a West Bend electric griddle and my father in law was famous for sour dough pancakes. The bulk of West Bend business and the reputation for even heat was based on aluminum but some stainless snuck in here and there through the years. Toastmaster made a frying pan that looked very similar to Hans with a stainless liner and shell sandwiched on aluminum. Did West Bend make the Toastmaster Electric line?

Middle Eastern Pancakes

Naan which is traditionally baked on the sides of a tandoori oven is a soft unsweetened dough made with yogurt and yeast.  I just cook the bread in a dry or non greased skillet until they are done.

I posted this in the Sunbeam thread, but will post it here also.  The Sunbeam skillet that Kelly gifted to me has a tilt leg, and a racheting clip so the cover can act as a splatter shield.  We had an avocado GE skillet that had these features, but my wife tossed it when the non-stick coating wore off.  I posted on here quite some time ago that I was looking for another skillet with the same features, and a few days later I found a surprise on my front stoop!

I fried some pork chops in my harvest gold Sunbeam electric skillett tonight. I kept the temperature around 260, and they came out so tender and juicy. I love my old electric skilletts!

Is that the Sunbeam w/ the crockery insert that I gave you as a housewarming gift?  If so, glad to hear that she's still going strong.  Do you put it in the dishwasher as I did when I had it?

It sure was Tim! I love that skillett. I have a West Bend in Harvest Gold as well. I usually wash them by hand, but I think I have washed it in the dishwasher a couple of times. I made a pork roast with carrots, potatoes, onions, celery, and cabbage in it last week that turned out absolutely delicious!

I never used the crockery insert when I had it, but was tempted a couple of times.  I was more comfortable using the crock pot so I that is why I didn't use the Sunbeam and the insert instead.

 

 

P.S. Those Sunbeams w/ the insert go for big bucks on Ebay.

There really wasn't much of a different between using the crock insert and the crock pot Tim. I do think the crock pot might be a little better because of the heavy glass lid, but I still like to use it every once in a while.
