A huckup is when a hiccup gets stuck or rerouted and turns into a burp. You can be hiccupping along just fine and all of a sudden what starts out as a hiccup turns into a belch. I've had it happen and my brother was really prone to having huckups even without a dishwasher in the picture.

Lol... I'm giving up the search for tonight. Not many super vintage ones turning up. I'm still "green" with envy over Jeff's new Kenmore 600 in thread 43501. I recant my previous statement about portable dishwashers. If it exists, looks decent, and is pre-1965 (or at least 1970) I want it. I don't care if it's top or front loader or if it is/isn't a kitchen aide (though it's preferred). I'll figure out how to get/keep it working with the fine folks here. I really want one for the kitchen.

There's an issue with the "huckup" LOL
Did anyone notice that the hoses have been cut? On the picture showing the back side of the machine...the hoses are hanging out but the connector has been cut-off.
So much for the portable "huckup" LMAO. Perhaps they used the machine in a stationary position and had the hoses plumbed in.

My next portable is either going to be a brand new Kenmore/Whirlpool/Maytag tall tub or a reverse rack Maytag if one shows up near me.
WP Portable DW
Will you will never find a better vintage DW than this WP and it is 1970-1. This DW is light years better than the neat machine that Jeff just got if you actually want to wash dirty dishes and have a machine that will not let you down or ruin your floors with leaking problems.

That is the exact Machine
I bought for my mother in 1970.
A little noisey, but WOW could that machine clean on SuperWash.
I almost bought a KDS 16 ? that year but when I saw the Upper Rack Spray Arm, I thought this was the best idea I ever saw in a dishwasher.
I also liked the Silver basket in the door, which occationally left disappointing results.

Yes, the in-door silver basket usually served as a coarse food strainer, but it was a very good dishwasher. We have noticed that most portable dishwashers we have found had little use. It seems like people got to where they could afford a DW and then not too long afterwards, could afford to move to a nicer home that had a builtin so the portable went into the basement to sit until an estate liquidation or a clean up when it was donated to a thrift store. Funny how the really choice things have to wait 20 or more years to show up. Often wedding or house warming gifts are packed away and forgotten only to be unearthed and offered up when a retirement or death comes along and they downsize. This was very true with Sunbeam Coffeemasters. In the late 60s, you could not find one in any kind of resale situation, but then, as the population aged some more and, face it the Coffeemaster was not something most young people could afford, the couples that had them started getting rid of them.

Maybe, but there are 2 things that make Jeff's a tiny bit better imho. It was in the state and it was only 30 some bucks. It would have to be something that really got my motor running for me to pay to ship something that heavy, at least under my current budget. Besides, I'd rather not have anything with hiccups.

I have a KDS-57A (KDS-17A) that I drove to Mississippi to buy. The guy told me he bought it new for his mom and she used it twice. She complained how hard it was to roll around. I use it quite often and I must say that when it is fully loaded with Stoneware plates and good thick vintage drinking glasses, IT IS A BEAST TO PUSH AROUND! Makes me wonder if women just could not maneuver them on their own and they just gave up using them.

My college dishwasher!
I had this same machine in college! I picked it up at a St. Vincent DePaul store for $10 bucks. I loved the streamlined look with no timer knob. It worked really well, amd kept our kitchen much cleaner! My housemates loved me!
We used the food warmer when we had parties; it worked really well! The only thing I had to replace was the pump & motor after about 6 mos. The original Delco turbo pump was no longer repairable.
It looks as if this machine still has its original pump, which means it probably did not see too much use. It's missing the cutting board insert, though.
I might have to look into this further!

Definitely a good performer and John is right it is one of the best. However A 1984 or newer WP Powerclean portable would be even better yet.
