Possible fault with LG 9kg Washer

Hi Guys,

Hope you've all had a great Christmas!

I just wanted to tap you all for advice on a potential problem with my LG 9kg washer. I've had it for almost two years now and have to say i'm quite impressed with it. The only real gripe i have is the tinted door window, i thought i could live with it but i really do miss seeing what's going on inside a washer but i knew what i was getting in to when i brought it so i'm now going to moan *too* much

On three separate occasions now i've noticed an issue with the wash timer, the most recent being the other day. Once started, the machine takes some time to 'detect' the load to determine the wash length, the other day i put it on a 40c cotton wash with 'Intensive' selected, after detecting the load the washer displayed a 2hr44min wash time which i though was lengthy but i trusted it knew what it was doing and i wondered if the time would adjust as the cycle progressed however it didn't. The machine completed it's final spin but instead of loosening the clothes and playing the 'End of Cycle' jingle it redistributed and ramped back in to the final spin, when i checked the timer it still had 40mins remaining so i can only assume that the machine would have continued the spin cycle until the time elapsed...i'm fairly sure this isn't right and could potentially pose a safety risk with the machine being under that amount of stress for such a time.

Have any of you had any similar problems or can you shed any light on what could be causing it/what could rectify it?

Does this happen every time on the same cycle or on multiple cycles? And does it depend on the load? Or is there no pattern at all?
Our Panasonic has a similar fault: On some high temperatur (90°/60°) eco cycles the machine drains 20min before the end of the mainwash and just continously tumbles on.
But with these high tech washers sometimes they are haveing "faults in the matrix" ...

I can't say i've noticed a pattern and the load sizes are all within the maximum, i'm always careful not to overload it. I did wonder if it was just a glitch.

Washers with microprozessors are like PC's with Windows: Today as common as a flu, and sometimes they develop there own thoughts and do what they want...

Have similar issues with mine.

Its not as new as yours but it does the exact same thing but only when a nearly full to full load is running if I do a smaller load like whats in it it shaves an hour off and does not go fruit loop before its finished just completes the cycle.

 

So maybe thats the answer do smaller loads!!

Sounds wonky. At 68yo I have avoided computer washers. The industrials (Wasco/Unimac) I watched in a hotel (2009) didn't have any of this wonky "detect" nonsense. They did what they were told.

I firmly believe ALL appliances should do what they are told rather than what they "think".

Until recently, our consumer magazine downgraded LG washers because they showed electronic glitches during the 1.800+ cycles durability test. Recent models are fine, though.,

My washer has a thing for secretly doing wrinkle-release tumbles when washing a very light load on Daily Wash. It will tumble for ten minutes and then go into the final spin. That is not supposed to happen, unless I activate the Wrinkle Release function. It's either a glitch or has to do with the Sixth Sense technology and the washer thinks it's washing synthetics that could wrinkle easily thus activating wrinnkle release. Who knows...

Every washer has faults anywhere! I remember our W961 always hung up on the EasyCare 30° cycle just as it was supposed to drain after the mainwash.
The washers we had before (IIRC Miele W761's) overran the "Stop" position if you used intensive prewash and ones in a while, they just started spinning to the right out of a tumble to the left.
On cottons, the W3241 never cared about Sudslocks and the Privileg Sensation 9415 was abled to run a extra short Eco 40° cycle, but not the same at 60°.
Now the AEG forgets about substracting the spintime if you select rinsehold and overall has a lot of unnescesarry timespans (linke unloking at 5 minutes left and then just overruning them).
And the Panasonic never stops trying to spin. It will redistribute for ever (at least for 1½ hours)!

Hi there

Pedro you have the same machine as me, mine's a bit older as it doesn't have 'Smart Diagnosis' but it's the same model F1479FDS5.

I usually fill it loosely so it always detects the load and takes between 1 hour 15 mins and 1 hour 40 mins. Although I have filled it completely to the brim a few times and the load detected took around 2 hours and 40 mins ish. When it detects the maximum weight the machine does 3 final spins. It does one whole spin sequence (max speed), re-distributes, another spin sequence (max speed), re-distributes, another spin sequence (max speed) and then the anti tangle tumbles.

The same thing happens on my aunts LG which is the same as ours but in black. Nothing to worry about tbh. The loads did dry quicker in the dryer! We love the LG, can't fault it.

Dyson2drums- I can't believe that, THREE complete spin cycles!? I suppose i can see the benefit for a full load but it seems so excessive, i used to grumble about our old Hotpoint taking 20mins for a final spin cycle, but with a full load the LG would take around 45mins. Crazy.

The last time it happened i stopped the cycle myself and can't say i noticed the load was any wetter than usual but next time i'll leave it to do it's thing and see if i notice any difference.

They claim 44% residual moisture at 1400rpm. Maybe thats the way they reach it. But at such big drums, 20min and more are normal...

Ok, another issue...

I put a load on this afternoon, normal sized load, 60c cotton cycle. The machine completed the wash portion of the cycle before going straight on to the final spin. No rinses, no fabric softener used. I'm now running it through a rinse and spin cycle.

I'm starting to think the PCB may be playing up...

Hmmm... I've never experienced anything as such.

Did you press the 'rinse' button by any chance as when you're going through the selection after all the different options there is an option where it does no rinses.

I use cottons 60 every day if not every other and it's always done 2 or 3 rinses by default.

Give it another cycle, if it's playing up then you ought to get it looked at.

i think its time you replace your washer

I think this might be a sign that you might need to consider replacing your washer because me i have a 2004 duet with a control board starting to fail when i wash bedding but me i am not giving myself the trouble of having that repaired me i will be replacing it it as for me in my case thats not worth paying for a repair but this is just the way i am because the trouble with my 2004 duet is when i have a bedsheet washing when the washer is in the 12 10 minute mark it should be in the final spin here are 2 pictures of my duet washer control panel turn on with the normal wash time and the shortest that is still to long for me as i would much rather set my washer to 10 minute wash temp dial cold water witch is fill wash drain spin fill rinse drain final spin off and not have to wait 40 minute
