I don't know if that picture has been posted before (and I might've missed it), but a big memory wave rushed over me when I saw it.
I remember the cigar boxes we had for Royal Stamps (purple in color), S&H (green, of course) and Gold Bond (a yellowish brown). Every few months we'd commence in filling the empty or half filled stamp books.
If memory serves, I remember most of the items that were used when my sister re-did her bedroom were bought with stamps, as well as her hair dryer and my Kodak Hawkeye Instamatic camera I received as a Christmas gift back in 1966.
I know that S&H still has some outlets in a few Atlantic states, but are there any others similar to them anywhere else?
Who remembers "The Brady Bunch" episode where the girls want to get a sewing machine and the boys want a rowboat? A competition ensues for ownership of all the books of stamps in the form of building a house of cards. The girls wind up winning the challenge (thanks to Tiger) However, a newspaper article reveals the stamp redemption center is going out of business and they hit the place up right at closing time on the last day they're open.
