I don't know if that picture has been posted before (and I might've missed it), but a big memory wave rushed over me when I saw it.

I remember the cigar boxes we had for Royal Stamps (purple in color), S&H (green, of course) and Gold Bond (a yellowish brown). Every few months we'd commence in filling the empty or half filled stamp books.

If memory serves, I remember most of the items that were used when my sister re-did her bedroom were bought with stamps, as well as her hair dryer and my Kodak Hawkeye Instamatic camera I received as a Christmas gift back in 1966.

I know that S&H still has some outlets in a few Atlantic states, but are there any others similar to them anywhere else?

Who remembers "The Brady Bunch" episode where the girls want to get a sewing machine and the boys want a rowboat? A competition ensues for ownership of all the books of stamps in the form of building a house of cards. The girls wind up winning the challenge (thanks to Tiger) However, a newspaper article reveals the stamp redemption center is going out of business and they hit the place up right at closing time on the last day they're open.

I Have:

Both three books of Green Stamps (two filled, one partially filled), and a little wall-mounted wood rack that holds stamp books in the upper part and loose stamps in a drawer at the bottom.

Makes me smile whenever I pass them.

We saved our S&H Green Stamps and Colonial Stamps (brownish gold) in cigar boxes also!  Sweet Memories!  Mama also purchased her Sunbeam canister vacuum with S&H Greenstamps.  That was a great vacuum until I blew it up trying to vacuum out the chimney! :o

Traidng stamps

Definitely a trip down memory lane. Seemed like everyone had their favorite ones that their grocer or service station gave out. I do fondly remember pasting S&H Green stamps, Top Value, Gold Bond and Plaid stamps, from A&P, I believe, in the books for my mother. We also had a local department store stamp that each book filled was worth $4.50 in merchandise credit. The Rival Can o mat on the counter is the same model I have and still works perfect, only in white.

My parents used to get S&H Greenstamps at Amaco & Standard gas stations, National Grocery stores and at the Chevrolet Dealer when my mom's car would get worked on.

On the basement level of Weibolt's in Oak Park (Harlem & Lake) there was a S&H redemption center where they had a lot of the S&H merchandise on display!

My mother-in-law saved Raleigh cigarette coupons which worked on the same principle.  She got a nice folding card table with 4 matching chairs, and an avocado GE electric skillet w/ tilt leg, and the legs were also removable.
