Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Glenn, that's definitely a good thought, observation, and noticed that also. Would be happy to have most of those detergents in my stash now, esp. Fresh Start.

GE was an excellent washer, my mom had one similar to the one pictured, ramped activator. Back in 1988-1989 I was managing a huge old one screen theatre, 600 seats, and the seat covers were beyond filthy when I got there, we changed out a row at a time, about 15 in the main seating section, through the week and I'd bring those home in 55 gallon garbage bags and throw them in the GE before going to bed, hot water and TOL detergent (either powdered Tide or Oxydol).  You can't imagine what that wash water looked like, filthiest I ever witnessed.  20 minute soak, one wash, one rinse, but room enough to wash. They all came clean, it changed the smell inside the auditorium.  Excellent washer!!!! (I had the cleanest theatre in the circuit when we got inspected. And business picked up also, people noticed.) Those were the days!!!  Of all the theatres I managed, that one was my favorite and I gave it good care. I understand now that theatre is a radio station!!! That theatre was haunted (the stories I could tell you.).

Even after doing that huge job, that washer lasted many years.

(I've wondered how a new HE machine would have handled a job like that. And, you would have to be extremely careful what detergent you used due to skin allergies for the general public. Sometimes you need the water.)
