Yeah thats my question too Ben,

This black tub is not in the pre-war literature. And those knobs are 1940's. The pre-war machines had dimples which were removed around 1940. Pre War machines had chicken beak knobs on top of a metal badge. The soap door was up front not in the rear. And the door hinges were covered in hard rubber. Note the handle style and the chrome bands that held the tub in place. This is a beautiful restoration for sure and it is carrying a pre-war badge on the front. Nice looking machine, nice restoration.       For some reason my photos are posting SIDEWISE TODAY --- ROBERT???!!!!

My machine would have had the

galvanized tub originally, however the machine was used and then the owner sent it back to Bendix in 1950 for a full make over she loved it so much and so at that time the tub was replaced by the newer porcelain tub. This is where I got lucky Hubby bought her a new Bendix in 1950 so when this machine was returned it was installed and not used so the tub is brand spanking new. So was the pump etc.   ROBERT-- THE PHOTOS ARE SIDEWISE AGAIN !!!

Just love the history . I can understand the previous owners attachment to her machine they are brilliantt and really excellent wash results . Did the machines in the USA have water heaters in them ??
 
Water heaters

In the Uk at the time when the Bendix was being sold most houses in the UK didn’t have a easy supply of hot water . Most homes were heating water from back boilers fuelled by coal fired or solid fuel boilers . Therefore a heater in the bendix was brilliant . The water can be raised from cold to boiling if needed . I know at the time soap powders were not like modern biological brands so the hot water was almost essential
The water can be kept hot with or without the wash action . This is the temperature gauge on the machine Before being restored

Bendix partnered with Disney with the release of the animated movie Snow White and called the models with a heater the "Snow White Bendix" and said that they heated water hotter than tap hot to get whites "Snow White". The testing magazines disproved that, but did say the heater did keep the water from cooling as much, only 5 to 10 degrees, I think, as it would without the heater energized.
 
The 1953 Combo

I had and now Jeff has, has the heater and it was working, of the 4 Combos I had that one was the only working unit. It got the wash so hot you could not keep your hand on the door glass. Amazing machines all around so glad to see all these beautiful restorations going forward. 

 

Mike, fantastic video of Darren's machines. Those are gorgeous, what is the top loader that has the "Drib-La-Matic" action into the tub? And that top loader with the spinning navy tub DROOL. But those Bendix Taps OMG over the top!! I never knew those were made !! The piece de resistance is the enamel tub catching the drips from the Frigidaire spin dryer !!!  Darren your clothes are gonna get confused, tumbling one way in the Bendix and the other in the Liberator!!
