I'm So Glad to Be Back Home
The "Trololo" song was originally written with lyrics about a cowboy riding a "mustang" over the prairie, while his wife "Mary" is back home knitting him a pair of socks.
In interviews, the singer, Eduard Hill (Khill) has said that at the time, in the mid-1970's, Soviet authorities would not have allowed such a song to be published. I suppose it's because of the link to American imagery. In any case, they kept the name but made it a "vocalize", which is a song without words.
Hill is still alive and apparently pleased with the sudden popularity of the song and the video, but not really aware that it is more being mocked than admired. In his heyday he also sang opera and received numerous awards from the Soviets. He's also said his last name, which has been written as Gill, Hill, and Khill, is probably of Spanish extraction, as in Gil or Gilberto.
He's also aware of the Christof Waltz parody, and seems ok with it, despite what he calls the "erotic" content, although he notes that the music really isn't the same.
