Back in 2009 when the kitchen renovations were finally complete, I had been searching for a typically 50's light fixture for the dining room.

I wound up installing this one, that had once been in the kitchen of the house in Mountain Lakes. It suited the room, but I thought it was a bit small for the room...

Cool light fixture and coffee pot collection, but the view of the mountain lion outside your window is much more interesting.

And here's the replacement!

I found two fixtures at a garage sale in Stanstead nearly two years ago now and I bought them both for the princely sum of $10 (and they threw in a corn-cob shaped cornbread pan...) with the intention of making one working fixture out them.

Well, this is the result! The bigger diffusing bowl really suits the room. The only hiccup was that while rewiring it, I messed up the retractable cord reel, so I can no longer raise or lower it. I can live with that though.

I am pretty happy with it!

Yes, the brass flying-saucer shaped fixture is a little larger and probably a more appropriate scale for a dining room. The copper-toned fixture might better fit a breakfast nook.

Cool!

I hear you on those cord reels--I did the same thing to one. I've been tinkering with it for weeks. I get frustrated and set it aside, if I come to a good conclusion I'll let ya know.

Looks great in your dining room!
