Probably Asking The Impossible

Hi To All,
Well I am poised to make my first vintage dishwasher purchase. Although it's not the Mid-50's Hotpoint I have been dreaming of, I did find this turquoise Frididaire locally and I think I'm going to negotiate a purchase on it since I LOVE turquoise and already have a cooktop and a double wall oven in that shade in my collection. I apologize for the tiny picture but I snagged it off a website, and it's the best I can get until the time of purchase. First of all, as best as anyone might be able to see, what year range for a Frigidaire dishwasher might this be. I know turquoise was sort of fading out by the mid-60's but I was curious if this is more late 50's or early 60's to you folks "in the know". It appears to be a front loader and the owner says it's a portable which was only used in the basement when his Mom threw parties and didn't want to lug dirty dishes up to her kitchen. He says it works and is in good shape. Anyone care to toss out what might be a fair price for a Frigidaire of this type/vintage in excellent shape?
Also, are there any suggestions about moving it as far as how it's laid down in a vehicle. All I have is a Ford Explorer so it's likely to have to make about a 9 mile ride home, laying on it's side. I've seen folks posting on here about special handling of some washers/dryers etc and was wondering if I have to worry about transporting this since hauling it upright isn't going to be an option. close up peek of your dishwasher, was unable to make out much. kinda looks like one of my frigidaire portables but again not sure. any way to get more pics of it.

i would offer 50-100 bucks for it, that's my going price anymore. if it's one i really really want i may go 200 but never over that! i would start at 50 i guess, i gave that for my front load frigidaire portable and it too is in excellent shape and runs well.

parts are available if you need them.

you can easily haul it on it's side or back, just make sure nothing is inside that could move around and scrape tub or damage pump. you could take out bottom rack if you like but it's not mandatory. i have carried a bunch of em, in my car, on their back, hundreds of miles! never had an issue.

i love those old frigidaires, have 2 in my collection, one top load and one front. they are a good dishwasher and quite easy to work on should it need a tune up.

One thing you might do to eliminate any "piddling" is to pull out the faucet coupler and tape or tie it, well padded of course, to the surface of the machine that is going to be the top when it is placed in your vehicle. That way the water in the pump won't run out of the hose when the pump is no longer the lowest part of the machine. Congratulations on your find.

9 mile ride home

Is not going to be a problem! I think my 'worst' trip to date was getting close to 800 miles...
That turquoise dishwasher sounds great! If it helps, the washing system can give you an idea of the machine's age. If there is one tubular wash 'arm' placed horizontally in the middle of the tub the machine is pre-1964. If there is a wash arm below the lower rack with a 'tower' that goes up to the upper rack, then its a 1965 to 1966 (possibly 1967) model - that would likely be one of the last of the run of turquoise.
Hope you get it! There is nothing like an all-turquoise kitchen!! LOL

What a relief to not have to worry about laying it down for the ride home! It's a portable so moving it around by myself will be easy but it was that fear of something going whacky if it was laid down wrong. That's an excellent idea about taking the rack out and taping up the hose. I'm sure it's been quite a long time since it was used, but I'm not counting on all the water being evaporated, so my vehicle's interior and I thank you. It's also great to know that you think highly of Frigidaire, and that I'm likely to be able to get parts if needed. As someone else had mentioned on here not too long ago, I'd like to make this an under-the-counter installation so I might have questions on that much later (when I have a counter to put it under, LOL). You all are great. Thanks again. I hope to hear from the owner about what he wants for it this week and can go make the purchase next weekend. If I get it, I will take some pictures to post to the group. Have a great weekend!
