Probably the rarest GE Filter Flo ever! certainly one of the coolest. complete with stainless steel accents and a solid back.

.There also appears to be a special front lip where the top meets the body. Possibly reinforcement to prevent tampering. It certainly is unusual as most Filter-Flo's are solid fronts whereas this has a removable front panel.

.One thing i noticed is that there is no water flume for the filter, perhaps it is not used in this model?

Although the lid instructions do mention "replace filter if provided". Perhaps an optional feature or might it have a center flume not visible?

for commercial units....this front access panel allows serviceguys to fix most issues with these without moving them......the "insides" are reversed as to a filterflo you would have at home....

look closely and you can just see the tip of the filter spout at the 7 O' clock position...

the only time I ever seen a filterflo in a laundromat, they were late 60's V14's, most of the pans were missing.....haven't seen any in use since then

There's a laundromat not too far from me that has these exact washers. I've gone there a few times, but the place isn't kept up all that great. Only a handful of them work, in fact there are a lot of machines there that are broken down, and half the dryers don't work right either. I loved using the Filter Flos though. I wish they would fix up the rest of them.

Niceeee. I have always liked the front service design. It really does speed things up like motor and pump changes.

I dont think those are that rare, there is an apartment complex several towns over that has similar looking machines, (just used a tad harder)

Someone will correct me on this but I think age wise this is late 80s early 90s?

yeah, this model is from the 80's.....yet that drain hose is something found on a late 60's early 70's machine.....the ones I remembered had the black agitator with the blue cap

standard capacity, single speed, one cycle.....nothing really special, but one hell of a kickass workhorse.....

and of course, and easy to bypass lid switch....

My grandparents lived in an 8-story building in Dunedin Florida which had a coin op laundry room for everyone to use. They moved there in 1974 or 1975 and the facility was equipped with 1971/72 or so Whirlpool washers in avocado.

In 1981 they got everything new, one for one, this time with GE Filter-Flos. I have seen quite a few of these since then, however the filter flume in these particular units was at the 1-o'clock or typical residential location. I don't recall them having removable front panels either, however I haven't seen them since 1986.

A couple summers ago a menber here was traveling in Virgina or W VA somewhere (I think) and found an out of the way laundry that still had a whole row of shaded Harvest Gold filter flo coin ops. Can't remember the name of the thread though, but the place seemed like a time capsule.

I worked with an Uncle, in 1982, as a service rep. for appliances.  He had several accounts in apartment buildings.  They had GE's with front service panels and those were from the 70s in Harvest Gold.   In fact, over the years, I don't can't ever remember seeing a GE coin-op that WASN'T front serviceable. 

 

The removable front panel they should have done for ALL their washers.  But GE didn't do that until 1994 or so.

 

What ever.

 

GE FFs are fun to play with, but they are one of the worst when it comes to wasting water.  That HUGE outer tub takes up probably as much as the inner tub.  It was a bad design with a hard to service motor assembly.

 

I liked their cabinets and control panels, though.  Especially the ones with the Toggle switches from the 70s.

 

At one time I had a 78 MOL GE washer.  The tranny went.  I carefully removed the top and gutted the machine of the suspension, and both tubs.... and put the top back on.   

Was much better.  

 

The cool thing with the new GE top loaders is the innards simply lift out.  remove 4 screws (and the pump connection and wire harness) and the whole thing lifts out.  And doesn't weigh nearly as much. 

 

Take the innards from a new machine and put it into the cabinet of my 1978.  That would be cool.
