I Don't Know What It is About the Dual 80s

You either love them or hate them. I had mine rebuilt at the factory. Fred Stachnik sent one back and then we had this one rebuilt at the factory for Miss Tania Voight. Has all the attachments! I don't know if it is the color or the new wide handle. I love it!

Dual Speed Kirby's

Peter - Actually all the machines starting with the Dual 50 and after were two speed machines. A lower speed with the rug nozzle attached and the higher speed when you put on the attachment hose.

Well so it is !!!

I never even knew that, just took a look and by geeze there is a little switch in the Tradition that the rug nozzle hits when you attach it. I knew there was one of the Heritage II cause I've taken them apart.
BTW the green Dual 80 coordinates perfectly with the Tania's top, was that a setup? LOL

Not Only The Top But The Hair Too

Check it out! Miss Tania's hair goes great with the Dual 80! Peter, isn't it great to learn something new. Always glad to help.

Kirbys!

I'm down to 4 at the moment, my favorite of all time has to be the Classic III. love the red!
For discussion: The D50 was the first 2 speed machine and today has a good rep as being a solid, reliable runner. The D80 and the Classic 1-CR weren't so hot. I've known people who owned both, and they suffered some serious electrical problems.
Whatever the issues were, they were resolved by the time the Omega came out. I remember my Aunt Sandy getting one brand new in 1975.
The inside of that Omega was the cleanest place in her house!

Hoover Aero-Dyne - Interesting Story

The Aero-Dynes were always machines I was fascinated with. Between the Lucille Ball Life Advertisements of the 40s-50s and the parts listings in the Hesco catalog. This machine came up on Ebay for which I was given a heads up on the old Vacuum Cleaner forum (long gone). Anyway, I was going to get this machine at any price. I ultimately paid almost $400 for it. It was listed as a brand-new machine. And indeed, it came with the original waxed paper wrapping and rubber band around the cord. It has the original box and all original packing materials including the instruction manual.

The story was that the nephew of the original owners found it in the Aunt's closet after the uncle gave it to her for Christmas. My mother used to say that if my father gave her a vacuum for Christmas, she would strangle him with the hose. I never understood that, since I would love a vacuum for a present. Anyway, she used it once and put it away, in her air-conditioned kitchen. It stayed there in it's box for almost fifty years, was finally discovered and I got it. It won a blue ribbon for "Best Original Machine" at the Vacuum Cleaners Collectors Club convention in Milwaukee. Truly worth it, don't you think? Vacuumed with it and a beautiful Hoover 61 upright this weekend. What fun!

Penncrest Cord-Reel standing in front of some Australian Convertibles.
The Dial-A-Matic is also Australian, where it was called a DYNAMATIC.

Here's Lucy's Ad

Here is a great ad from Lucille Ball. For those in the "know" she was an advertiser for Hoover. She used them in "I Love Lucy" all the time. This was an older model than my 53 with a braided hose. Still you got to love it.

You've Got To Love This Hobby (and others)

I spent this last weekend vacuuming with the vintage Hoovers, while washing dishes in a vintage KitcheAid diswasher and washing clothes in a vintage Maytag. What a life.

I am so happy to see more and more of the vacuum guys here! YAY!! You have all poseted some great pictures. Fred that Aero Dyne is just beautiful. Charlie, Max is so cute!! I think it is the green color of the Dual 80. It is so different from anything else Kirby ever made and still the only model to my knowledge they did in green. Greg Nunn found a Dual 80 at an estate sale and was kind enough to give it to me. I am having it rebuilt and buffed out at the Kirby dealer in Omaha. They did such a great job on Greg's machines. Jeff, your Hoover collection is awesome. I have been lucky enough to see almost all of the machines that have been pictured in this thread and I can assure you all that they are even more breath-taking in person. Terry

What collections

I think what you guys need are conveyor belts like for luggage where the machines slowly enter the room, circle the perimeter and disappear into the back. With spotlights and recorded announcements detailing the highlights as the machines pass by.

Conveyor belt vacuums........

Pete,
We did that a few years back and had all makes and models represented in chronological order. It was a wonderful success and then airlines tried to copy it without as much success.

On a more serious note, many of the vacuums seen in the pics have been displayed and competed in cleaning competitions as we are also members of the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club, also known as the VCCC. A small group with a very inactive, locked down website. That is why so many are starting to migrate to this much more friendly website where we can post pictures at will and the dialogue is very open and quite civil.
I think most current and former VCCC members will agree with me and a big THANK YOU to the webmaster and regular posters who are allowing us to enjoy our hobby and passion here!

Charlie

Speaking of the vac clubs

I did check out the VCCC till I noticed it was a closed site. Not that I wouldn't pay because I pay for a couple of other sites but you couldn't get in there to see what you were buying LOL.. The other one..you know What's the...well talk about getting your head bit off by some know it all for asking a few questions. I think you're allowed only one question then get the H out.

It's funny that there are so many crossover members from the vac lovers to the toaster collectors, mixers, on and on! I'm so glad we have this forum to express some of the other fun collections we all seem to have.

Fred - what Maytag were you using? Your wringer?
