I'm sort of an eclectic collector and have friends who more or less specialize in certain items like art glass, pottery etc. which sometimes overlap with me. Certainly know that feeling of finding something so good you really would like to keep but you know that you have to pass it along to them. Now that I'm aging, lol, it gets easier to let stuff go to someone I know is going to appreciate it. There's another thing too, many times I get more fun out of the hunt whether for me or for someone else.

Greg - I only use the wringer for a demo - some people have never seen one. Nope - it was the Maytag A806. The matching dryer isn't heating right now, so the clothes get dried upstairs in the Neptune dryer. Lord help me, I went to the upscale appliance dealer and checked out the Speed Queens. Nice machines.

Dual Sanitronic 80 - original parts

Hi, my mom recently passed away and she still had the same vaccum cleaner we grew up with as kids. I remember pushing that thing around every week. I took it to a local Kirby dealer in Michigan for a good cleaning. I was told it is all original parts, great shape and that the front and rear bearings needed replacing. (I replaced the bearings so I wouldn't burn out the motor.) I don't have any children to pass this cleaner down to and was wondering if there is a market for the Dual 80 and what it would possibly sell for.

Is the vacuum complete and have all the attachments, ie: rug shampooer, Mircle Head, Handi-Butler, owner's manual, etc?

The more complete and original the vacuum, the more it will be worth to a collector. The Dual 80 was all in green. Some people have put on mismatched bags, cords, wheels and bumpers. When that happens, the value decreases tenfold.

I'm uh...er...blush...looking for an '80...

...I saw one with attachments go for just over $100 on eBay...kicked myself for not sniping it. Another one, "restored" by a hobbyist, no tools, is on Buy-It-Now for $75.00. A set of tools and a Miracle Head for the Sani-80 is also on eBay right now, no bids on either last I drooled...er, checked.

By the way....here's the ole Classic 1-CR...

Just a rough cut mind you, an initial scub and buff just to see what was under the tarnish and filth...

Co-starring -- The Flexi-Shaft....

Also Co-starring -- The Handi-Butler...

And Starring...(drumroll) -- The Classic Omega Power Plant!

He's going to need some work, i.e. bearings. So he's going to get his motor cleaned and rebuilt, bag cleaned, etc. He's also scheduled for some erious time with the buffer and detail work afterwards.

I picked up an Omega, missing a brushroll and baseplate on fleaBay ($0.99 + S/H)to power the Handi-Butler and Flexi-Shaft with a buffing pad attachment. MAAS Metal Polish (to use up the tube) and a buffing pad. The mark on the side of the nozzle bumper is actually some of the metal polish.

They ain't worth much

I've taken one of my Traditions down to the flea market for 3 weekends now and I couldn't give the thing away is how much the're worth.. LOL Actually I put a sticker of $40 and a big sign, make an offer, not a bite. And that's with it all shiny and pretty much new looking

Kirby Classic Tools

If anyone needs a set of attachments/tools for the Kirby Classic, (1CB), they are yours for the asking as they are being sent to the attic. Just pay shipping and I'll be glad to send them to you.

There is no hose, just the surface nozzle, crevice tool, utility air nozzle, dusting brush, crystalator, lifter grip, surface elbow nozzle, curved extension wand, massage cup, shoulder strap, floor duster, (felt pad) and utility brush nozzle. And, the attachment holder box is in decent shape.

vacuuming head= surface nozzle, my very first Kirby is missing

AirWay Charlie; I am a member of the VCCC,how does that website work?? I would think they would give a password or something to members-if they aren't going to do anything with it-shut it down.Their magazine is excellent. Look forward to each issue.I would think if the website could be like this one-they could recruit MORE members quickly. Usually anyone who has an interest in appliances also has a place for vacuums.I even found this website by typing in "Vintage vacuum cleaners" and "AutomaticWasher" came up!

I can not begin to tell you the problems that we have had with the VCCC website. The club is in a transition period and we may have a new website in the not too distant future.

Yes, as a member, you should have received a user name and password long ago. Someone is asleep at the controls.........

Even if you have a user name and password, you have to type your name, city & state and email address for EVERY post you make. You can't download any information without going through the webmaster. I never liked this but it is what it is.

It is a very inactive site and a few of us have migrated over to automaticwasher.com, where we have been graciously received since there is a certain amount of "crossover" between the interests.

There are several of VCCC members, myself included, dedicated to re-energizing the club. We had been on "CBS Sunday Morning" twice and our 23rd, (I think), convention is happening in St. Louis in 2006. There is nothing I would like better than to have folks from this site attend. I am the former President and a Board member, (I think), so increasing the membership and spreading the word is VERY important to me.

I am sorry you have had trouble trying to get on the website and you should contact the current President and webmaster for getting yours user name and password.

I'm glad I got to meet you here and we can encourage each other and other vacuum collectors to save the old Hoovers, Kirbys, Air-Ways, Electroluxs, Filter Queens, Tri-Star/Compacts, RexAir/Rainbows, Eurekas, Filtexes, Modern Hygienes, etc.

Air-WayCharlie;I am looking very forward to the new VCCC website.The old one just sounds to user "Unfreindly" to use.Yes,I try to find a home for all old vacs-Most I have are "trade ins" that I got from the Rainbow,Kirby,Filter Queen dealers and from the walk-in vac dealers here.Sadly-only Rainbow and TriStar remain. Kirby,FQ,have gone under out here.I can see why-I have tried to sell TriStars here as well along with a friend who owns and runs the franchise-its a tough market-most folks out here buy their vacs from "Wally-World",Sears,Best Buy,etc.One of the Vintage vac guys out here was flooded out from Floyd-he had all kinds of old machines-his shop and home wewre totally destroyed by the floyd flood. His area was covered by almost 20Ft of flood waters.The area is still trying to recover.It also wiped out a cool "antiques Mall" that had a very old Maytag wringer washer outside.The place is totally gone and not from the bulldozers!Miss it.

Charlie is correct, the web site is all but dead!! I am also a member of the VCCC. I was so lucky that I found this group first, then the vacuum club. John by all means contact the webmaster and get your password, after paying your dues you are more than entitled to this. Let us know what you think when you can compare the two sites. It would be wonderful to have lots of you attend the convention in St.Louis this coming June. Terry

Well...

Myself, I plan to join the VCCC -- Charlie, I've seen enough of your posts here to feel that if you're part of a effort for positive growth, the chances of it working are excellent to definite. My check will go out Friday. The membership form is like from 2003, but Charlie L. says it's still valid.

As far as any people issue thingies -- those bridges can be crossed when I come to them. And since I'm already in St. Louis, yah darn tootin' I'll be at the Convention! I wanna see some of these beauties in the flesh -- or cast-aluminum, as the case may be...

My "business model" for the VCCC was growth, growth and more growth. The only way for this to happen is to find ways for outreach.

The club is unique due to personalities, egos, conceptual thinking and levels of sophistication or lack thereof. In posting here and reading posts, I find it beneficial that there is no Board, no President and no by-laws. I'm not sure the VCCC could operate that way but the "business model" here seems to work well without a hierachry.

The washer/dryer/dishwasher crowd only has conventions every several years and there is no competition. The VCCC has had conventions for over 20 years with competitions. In hindsight, I'm not sure if the competition promotes what we are really all about and that is: people with an interest in vacuums, particularly vintage, but not limited to that genre.

Fred N., a Board member, and Terry L., a longtime member, and both good friends of mine, (as well as other posters here), and they are perplexed, as am I, why there are such stuggles within the VCCC. The membership is a wonderful group of people and very generous for the most part. Yet, when it comes to the daily business, there is sort of a conflict going on and no one communicates very well other than a small concerned group which could then be seen as being a clique.

We have our challenges to deal with, which we will. Some of us hope to have a new website designed by Robert, who is the webdesigner for this site. However, the most important thought I want to leave you with is that, yes, please do JOIN, and please do become a participant in St. Louis.

Despite the troubles the VCCC may have on occasion, I want to reiterate that the membership as a whole are some of the most wonderful people I have ever met. Many have become my family and I am truly grateful for their friendship.

So, please become part of the family. You have seen how Fred, Terry, Rex, Scott, Hans, Roger, Jeff and others have posted here and are part of the VCCC family. We welcome you and it will be a pleasure to meet you in St. Louis and I'm glad you are planning to attend!

Charlie you are certainly right, there are many, many wonderful members in the VCCC. I too have made so many great friends. John you will enjoy the group so much. I have attended 4 conventions and they have all been great. I think the neat part here is that we are able to share our love for all appliances. I am fascinated with the older washers, dryers, and dishwashers, all small electric kitchen appliances, and of course vacuums. This thread seems to run deep with many members here and I think that is what makes it so special. For any members here living in the Spokane Washington area Mark Turbyfill a vacuum shop owner is hosting a mini meet on October 7,8,9th. I will be helping him with this. You do not need to be a member of the VCCC to attend. If any of you are interested please feel free to contract me and I will get the details to you. Terry
