Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Adjusting Feet:

This is a simple procedure, but you do need to know how:

The feet are at each corner of the machine. Each is like a big bolt, with threads, so it screws up into the bottom of the machine (to make that corner lower) or screws down from the bottom of the machine (to make that corner higher).

In addition - this is the "tricky" part - there is a nut on the threads of the foot. It is a locking nut, and unless you adjust it, your newly-adjusted foot can work its way back out of level.

The way it works is: Adjust the feet by screwing in or out until the machine is level. Now, adjust the locking nuts by screwing them upward until they are tight against the bottom of the machine. This locks the feet, and unless your floor changes level for some reason, you shouldn't have any more trouble with leveling issues.

Please keep in touch here if your Maytag comes down with any issues. It can keep running a very long time if it's cared for. You don't need to even think about a new machine for years and years.

Aww you guys are AWESOME!!!! I will keep in touch!! I asked a friend to come over today and do some laundry hahaha I will adjust as everyone has suggested and test today. I will also remove the front of the dryer and clean it (after unplugging lol). I will also watch the amount I put in. I agree I rather do more loads than put too much in one. Thank you sooooo much everyone!!

will also remove the front of the dryer

I would remove the front panel on the washer as well. Its just two screws on the toe kick and the panel lifts out and up, like a car hood, to release the top clips. Installation is the reverse. Remember to unplug the power cord first.

Check for evidence of water leaks, look for gray dust or a damper pad working loose. Another way to test the damper pads is grab the top of the agitator and move it around, it should move freely yet with some resistance.
There is video on youtube that explains it well.

If you're feeling brave, the top cover opens easily as well, two screws at the top corners and open again like a car hood and it is hinged at the back.

If you don't have a level, or don't want to buy one, but have a smartphone; there are several FREE level apps- that should be plenty accurate for leveling a washer; maybe not building a house, but good enough!

Ok we have made progress!!! I did get the level on my phone but it didn't help much lol it said all was already level. I did adjust the front feet and it now has only a small quiet shake. TONS better!!!! It doesn't sound like it is a jet taking off hahaha it seems normal now anyway. So happy!! Thank y'all again!! Still have to take it apart. I cleaned the inside of the vent area again really well. I am a little nervous to unscrew anything but I can do this!! Lol

Removing the Front Panels:

It's easy to do, but Maytag hid the screws in plain sight. A photo is below, showing the location of the screws.

Once you have the screws out, grasp the panel by the sides, near the bottom. Pull on it, swinging it toward you. It will release itself from the two clips that hold it at the top when you have swung it far enough.

To reinstall, seat the top edge of the panel back on the clips, swing the panel down into place, and put the screws back in.

Piece 'o cake.

load of towels in the maytag...

i load the towels loosely around the agitator. i don't push the load down into the washer to try to fit more towels in there. this is the way i load the towels into my maytag washer.
just in case you want to know exactly how i do it.

;o)

These Maytags are

truly impressive finds, Rachel

These old Maytags were nearly built as solid as WWII tanks, much better I suppose many people will agree than the present-day Maytags by Whirlpool. Although no bad machines in their own way (far from it) the newer ones are simply no match to the longevity and built quality of the vintage, like yours. And you got that set at a low price, too!

One can easily understand your enthusiasm! Many nice wash days in perspective...

Take care!

Jean

btw, hello ''hippiedoll'' !!!

Excellent find and price

Congratulations Rachel, good score. Our Maytags are newer, but only slightly - 1984. They look in great condition, as ours. Enjoy them and this group - plenty to explore.

Phil
