Well, I hooked up my '62 Frigidaire multi-matic last night and water flowed all over the floor, I mean A LOT of water. Although the machine did and does run perfectly. So I pulled off the small lower back panel and sure enough ....... RUST !!!!!, two decent size holes right through the bottom of the "outer tub". So I pulled the inner tub tonight and man oh man, chunks of rust like same size and consistency of "peanut brittle". NASTY !!!, so I patched the two holes and gooped "glue/silicone" in several spots that look "ready to bust". I think I got it covered and will use POR in the bottom as well. Should buy me some "time" in using this machine which again runs great. Although I haven't got it back together yet. I haven't had the best luck with machines lately. But on the other hand I really can't and shouldn't complain because the problems that I have had have been minor and relatively easy fixes, just time consuming. So when putting the inner tub back, any "tips" as far as lubricating or cleaning the outside/underside bottom of the inner tub where it sits on the tub seal ?

Thats a tragedy!!

I have a 61 Multi-Tragic that will be used for parts sometime next summer. If the outer tub is ok, you are welcome to it Greg.

Had a 1963 model in the 1980's and I did figure out how to tear it down. Cannot remember much about doing it now however.
Was not able to obtain replacement transmition parts for it, so it went to the scrapper "torn down".

Got your email late tonight and here you are on the forum!

You should make sure the face of the carbon seal and the bronze ring on the underside of the hub (tub mounting) is clean and free of dirt, water, grease, etc. Put a thin film of light turbine oil on the carbon seal face and you're good to go...

thanks greg and rick

"turbine" oil ??? what is that ? I did clean it and used my finger to rub "gear" oil on it, just enough to trace my finger over it, I didn't "pour" it on so to speak, and yes rick if your "outer" tub in your multi-tragic is OK then I would love to have it.
