Hey,
As a fan of Aviation, A fan of Rock and Roll (and all music) and a mucisian besides I just had to watch the Yahoo news blog about Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden fame being a pilot for his band as well as commercail airlines.

Anyone wanna comment?

At the same time I am full of admiration for this man 'flight wise' and ' front man for the band wise' I have to ask how comfy would you all feel knowing that a heavy metal vocalist was at the controls of your plane? What questions might arise in the back of your mind?

No intent to cause trouble here I just thought this might be a fun topic for us to play around with for awile.

I have known many different airline pilots over the years that had all kinds of businesses on the side------ from trucking companies to cattle ranchers. I never even gave it a second thought as they are/were all very capable airmen/airwomen.

It's been a well known fact that Bruce Dickenson is a pilot, and from what rumor has a darned good one at that!
With all the testing that goes on and proficiency training you have to go through before you even get near a airliner cockpit, I have no problem with the guys who actually make it. It can be very hard work and the responsibilities you have are enormous.

whirlcool,

you seem to be right on that from what they said he is held high in esteam. I think its pretty cool. Chalk one up for us poor starveing society trouble causing musicians...lol...

I guess my thread wasnt meant to say it was imposible or anything or to cause any doubt, I just thought the two careers were so very extreame from one another. Maybe I should start a thread on that line and see what happens. All my respect my man......Lee

Due to the schedules we work, a lot of pilots have their own businesses, usually with their wives. Some of these businesses are:
A Carpet/Tile Floor
A Florist Shop
A Car Dealership
A Catering Company
Volunteering with the Small Business Administation as advisors
(I know about 8 guys who do that!)
And a lot have their own aviation mechanics shop, flying schools, etc.
Amway!

And religious occupations. This thing kind of gets me sometimes. There is nothing worse than just taking off, establishing your climb out configuration settings, turning to the departure heading, making sure the engines are set up right for the proper aircraft performance. You can then settle in for the flight. Then the first thing the First Officer does is look at you with a shit eating grin and says "Captain, Do You Know Jesus?" Trapped like a rat on the flight deck.

When I'm not out on a trip, I sometimes do dog obedience training for a local animal shelter. Dogs that know the basics (sit, stay, heel & come) usually get adopted very quickly. It's a personal satisfaction I get from doing that.
When business gets busy, I also sometimes teach ground school or give flying lessons at our local airport.
And then of course, there are the four websites that I have built and maintain.
