For you Applianceville Hi-Fi fans-those who are REALLY serious--Presenting the "MAGICO ULTIMATE" Speaker systems! These 800 pound eac beauties retail for $229,000 per pair-and yes special tube amps are includded. Each speaker systems has 4 horn drivers-the horns made from aircraft grade alunimum.they are kinda beautiful though.Nice machining and welding jobs to build them. The designer of the system will delivor and install them for you on a complete and paid order.WOW-better save up!!I am wondering how these will sound!!And hope your listening room has a ceiling to accomidate their 8ft height. The horn drivers and the woofer are mounted on an aluminum panel that is 3in thick.

For that kind of money you could set up your own recording studio and invite local talent in to make whatever music you liked.

Can someone explain what exactly is it about those speakers that justifies the price...?

Oh, and re. the loud bass thumpers installed in the automobiles of the Youth of Today: actually the real reason for those is, when played with certain kinds of "music," they are known to be a fast & effective cure for the chronic constipation that results from eating too much fast food.

Hi-fi snobbery

This all goes into the Audiophile catagory where it's all about spending thousands of bucks to listen to music. If you want to be able to hear the band, go to the concert.

I can agree with you guys on the ridiculous measures some people go thru to listen to their favorite music-my system is rather modest.I saw those speakers in a magazine and wanted to show them here to see what reactions are out there since some Applianceville guys are into HI-FI-But NOT that much!Beleive me I can find less expensive means to here music-yes $229,000 would sure buy more than a LIFETIME of concert tickets and more modest Hi-Fi equipment.I did admire their beauty and the skills needed to build them-say--send the plans for those to the Chinese and other Asian companies-bet THEY could build those for a fraction of the cost!!So far I head the outfit that builds the "Magicos" has gotten 3 orders-it takes about a year to fabricate your pair.How-bout a discont if your order a SORROUND SOUND system using those???At this stage will shop for used theater speakers-thats what they remind me of.In another "Hi-End" hi-Fi magazine--saw a $90,000 "Caliburn" phono TT to go with those speakers!I am not that desperate to listen to records-my 20Yr old Rega does just fine!!Cost less than one tenth new than the Caliburn. Some of these Hi-FI folks have gone off the deeep end!

I have a word for that kind of stuff. I call it "audio-gaudio."

BTW, a set of $400 Tannoys sound every bit as good as the expensive Urei studio monitors that are used in the process of recording the music in the first place.

I wonder if the quarter-mil guys could tell the difference if they were blindfolded...?

Speakers particularly get to a point where higher cost has only a very subtle effect to the sound. When RJ built his theater room, he researched on a home theater audio/video forum for months. Decided to go with a highly-touted line of speakers name of Onix Rocket that are available only through a web site. Specially tuned for home theater use. They arrived a few weeks before the room was ready for installation, so they lived at my house for a while. I was interested in upgrading my equipment, and even had furniture specially built to hold the massive center channel speaker in this line in case I decided to go for them. Well, I was quite surprised to find that the left/right towers didn't sound (to my admittedly untrained ear) any better than my Advent Legacy IIIs. I did an A-B test and RJ couldn't tell the difference either. I posted on the message board and stirred up a discussion (there were *many* heated discussions on that board over these speakers). The PRESIDENT of the company contacted me, offered to FLY OUT HERE to find out what exactly was going on. He said my Advents were very good speakers, but that there should be *some* noticeable difference against his product. Of course, nobody ever flew anywhere. And I'm still running my Advents. And of course, there's nothing wrong with the Rockets either, as those who heard them during the wash-in can confirm.

Yes-Tannoys- long ago listened to a pair-were excellent.Esp the "Dual Concentric" models.Yes in many cases home speakers can be better quality than the ones in the studios-this explains why some recordings sound HORRIBLE-you wonder what speakers the studio monitored and mixed the recording on.Also radio station monitor speakers face the same problem--the listener may have better speakers at home and is listening to your station on them-he can hear defects you at the station don't!!
I would not want to buy speakers thru the internet unless you can listen to them first.I usually shop for Hi-Fi gear locally-you can hear it-and if something goes wrong-the dealer can help you.The Klipsch speakers I bought the dealer delivored them for free and helped me set them up and did a good job of it.At most radio stations I have dealt with JBL 4415's are the most common monitors.Have seen them used at both studio and transmitter. You need high quality speakers at both locations to monitor what is going into the xmitter and what is going out-AM stations included. You would be amazed at what AM stations sound like when heard thru a good system. At the AM or FM tx site the audio monitor sample comes from the modulation monitor-then fed to an amp then the speakers. The studios use an AM-FM tuner or a remote modulation monitor fed from an RF preamp.and of course the studio has the ability to monitor the program material before it goes to the transmitter or on air(audition mode)Now some stations use standard consumer(low priced) speakers for monitors. That would explain some of the poor station audio out there. The listner can hear what the station doesn't over their inadequate speakers. The monitor speaker is a very important tool to a station or a recording studio. They can also help isolate many problems.

What can one say...

You could hand craft and make something by hand, and take a long time doing it, and not justify the price.

Ferraris are hand made and don't cost that much!!!!
