I'm told that the Agitator nut often breaks off during the removal process on a Frigidaire 1-18.

Are the threads right handed or left handed?

Or perhaps someone can please point me to a discussion thread that specifically addresses the issue of agitator removal? I'm wondering what one does to remedy the problem if the nut does break off.

Thanks much.

i have one 1-18 and i took it all apart this summer. the agitaton nut is a standard thread, i turned it counter clockwise to remove it.

but i did not try to hold tub steady with my foot or any of that. i was afriad that if i held tub and twisted that nut i would break keyway on agitator shaft which i have been told will happen.

i simply held agitator shaft from turning with a good pair of vice grips on that shaft at it's lowest point, right above where it screws into the ball support, that metal acorn looking coupler. i held vice grip with a peice of pipe over the handle and then with great force that agitator nut removed no problem!

this is how i have removed them on 4 of my rollermatics as well. i don't know of a better way to do it but if someone else does by all means enlighten us!

water and oil bellows are still out there, it uses the same oil bellows as a rollermatic but a different water bellows. mark tells me he will be getting more to sell shortly.

good luck
